Which heat gun is the best? What features are most important?

    For a while most folks have agreed that the Steinel HG 3002 LCD heat gun http://tinyurl.com/yxz2h2 ($160) was the best model. But that model has been discontinued and the new model, the Steinel HG 2310 http://www.steinel.net/products/heatguns/electronic_heatguns.cfm ($180), looks like it might be better. And then I just found out that there is a third option that has a unique set of features, the Weldy Plus ($150) http://www.weldyheatguns.com/plus.htm

    All these heat guns have variable temperature that easily covers the 400ish degree vaporization range, thermocouple temperature control, LCD, and have variable fan speed.

    The differences are:

    3002 has an analog dial control for temp, LCD on the top, min fan speed 7 CFM
    2310 has digital pushbutton control for temp, LCD on back, min fan speed 3.6 CFM
    Weldy Plus has digital pushbutton control for temp, LCD on top, min fan speed 8.8 CFM

    The 2310 looks like the winner because the 3.6 CFM speed is lowest (most desirable). But what annoys me about it is the LCD on the back... seems like it would be impossible to read if you were using it with a bong. Also it seems like the digital controls on the back would be harder to adjust while using it (especially if you can't see the LCD).

    I emailed the guy selling the Weldy Plus and he said the nozzle might be a slightly different size from the Steinel, so it may not fit tightly in vrip or gotvape bowls designed for the Steinel.

    I'm curious to hear from people who use heat guns... which would you think is more important, a low 3.6 CFM airspeed or the LCD on the top for easy readibility?

    BTW, I decided not to pursue the cheaper heat guns without thermocouple temperature control because from everything I've been hearing that's really important.

    Sorry to be un-productive on your thread but man that vaporizing shit is so technical. It blows my mind. lol. I hit one one time at a friends house and it gave such an amazing hit, and a very clean high as well. Why does it have to be so technical though? Why!? lol. When im pretty bored one day im going to get learned;) on some vaporizing techniques.

    I like the 2310.

    I was lookin at some budget ones recently. i like the 80$ one from Gotvape:

    and the Makita HG1100 looks pretty decent too.

    Airspeed isnt too much of an issue with a bong because of the "lung assist" function :)
    But if you plan to fill some bags, you might want to think about it. I havent had the pleasure quite yet.

    oh... and here i was all set to say how anti-weed "guns" (aka HEAT/HEATERS) are only to find out you're literally talking about "heat guns'.

    I got a milwaukee heat gun from home depot for 40 dollars and it is the exact same one as the got vape gun, without the got vape stickers. You can also go on amazon.com and look up grizzly heat gun they have an adjustable temperature on for like 30 with shipping. Dont get suckered in to paying high prices if you can get the same thing for alot less. The one I have works great. The cool down function it has is great too. I suggest checking it out.

    Be careful, we used to smoke with a heat gun that was ment for stripping paint. The heat got way too hot though and for less then a second the tip of my index finger got in the way and now my finger nail has never been the same. :mad: it permenatly dammaged the nail bed. SO BE SAFE

    I decided on the 2310. I figured that having the display on the back isn't so bad.

    The gotvape heatgun looks to be the same as the $40 Wagner that I got at Lowe's. It works okay, but only has six temperature settings... the lowest one is marked as producing 250 degrees on low airspeed (350 on high) and the second is marked 450 on low (550 on high). I messed around with it last night and found the lowest setting works okay for for filling bags, but for using with a bong the lowest setting is too low and the higher setting is too high.

    That cheap grizzly model with the adjustable temp looks like the winner in cheap guns, but it probably doesn't have a thermostat... the expensive Steinel guns have thermocouples inside the heater so they adjust the heat level depending on airflow... if you suck hard (in a bong) or don't suck at all (filling bags) they should give the same temp.

    Which lets you set it at the 390ish temperature that gets the maximum THC out of your stash (and some canabanoids too). The thing is that combustion starts at about 430 degrees, so if you don't have temperature regulation it's easy to start your herb burning (or at least get a lot of burnt popcorn taste).

    This is what I'm finding... that experimenting with cheap guns is useful for learning but not consistent enough for getting good results.

    GotVape.com are liars.

    They claim "1-5 day air shipping" when it's actually priority mail, which was sent by truck. They also claim the absolute lowest price, or they'll match it. I called them for a price match and they said "that vendor is selling it for less than the minimum allowed price so we won't match it."

    I was just about to post a thread about this. Are you going to go with the nitro bowl or the vriptech?

    Also are you going with a bag setup or just through a glass piece?

    IMO, there are only two brands you should use-

    Any Steinel or the Milwaukee 8988. The Milwaukee is the best value IMO. It has the ceramic heater and digital temperature control/readout. The components inside are actually Steinel!

    These heatguns are the only ones that have a real-time temp control which keeps the temp constant no matter what you do. Other guns don't vary the heat automatically so your temp will be highly variable.

    I have used a standard cheapo heatgun in the past but you can't beat the Milwaukee. Pefect temp each time and I have never burned any buds. Just set it and forget it.

    Heat gun vapes are too fucking annoying, I had one and it ripped okay when it didn't burn the weed but I ended up selling it, too noisy and too much trouble.

    I definitely would not buy one again, If I was to get a vape again I'd drop the dime on a Volcano.
