Which bulb is Hotter, MH or HPS

  1. Heat is getting to hot with the outdoor temp rising to mid 20s C.

I got the bulb and the balast separated, with just the bulb in my closet temps are pushing 90F that's with a fan.

If the HPS is a cooler bulb will it also work with the MH balast?

  2. A 600W HPS draws the same amount of energy as a 600W MH despite the different spectrum outputs. All the energy will eventually turn into heat, so a 600W HPS produces the same amount as heat as a 600W MH.

  3. A HPS will not work with a MH ballast. HPS's use a starter and MH's don't.

  4. But you can buy conversion bulb. So you can plug a MH bulb in a HPS ballast.

  5. You were doin good until the "conversion bulb" and a HPS ballast.

No problemo, I'm not about to go out and buy a HPS ballast, the MH was enough.

I just saw a 400w HPS that's got a blue spectrum added, all it says is that you need a 400w ballast, doesn't say which kind.

I also just read MH produce more thc, bonus, I just got a heat problem, so time to get out the chain saw.

    good forum, by the way.

  6. I have just switched to my 600w digilux mh to my 600w digilux hps and with out a doubt the hps is hotter.

  7. Digital ballast most likely
