Where is everyone going on vacation in 2011?

  1. A long time ago, a wise man on the wrong (right?) side of the law once told me this.

    He spent all is money traveling. One day I asked him why? He told me the following;

"Because everything I own can be taken away from me, but they can never take my memories"

It was deep then, and it's deep now.

I have my whole life traveled and try to do as much as I can every year, preferably outside my current country.

This coming year I will be visiting Colombia, & USA for sure, Going to try and do Panama, Mexico, and maybe head to Europe before it gets cold, then back home to Costa Rica.

So, Where is everyone going on vacation in 2011?

  2. I live by that philosophy myself. Stuff breaks, memories last forever, so I choose to spend my money creating memories.

I work for a travel company, and work as a tour leader 3-4 times a year. I'm currently booked to go to South America (Argentina, Uruguay, & Brazil) and I think I'm going to be working on a cruise that goes from Mumbai to Cape Town (that's not set in stone yet though).

For a personal vacation, I'm not sure where I'm going yet... I would love to go back to India.

  3. I'm currently planning a RTW round world trip, with my girlfriend and we're thinking the start of 2012 being the beginning. Starting with Hawaii, S Korea, Austrailia, Japan, China, Italy, Morocco, France, Spain, England, Germany, Holland, Belgium, just so many places blades. Look into WWOOF! We are saving all of our cash (not paying rent) now and will be for another year or so hopefully! :] Both steady jobs, christmas bonus, tax money back, gonna be nice. She has only been in a couple states near here but I've had the chance to leave the country a couple times and travel all over our own country.

edit - but for 2011..her and I are going with her family to the virgin islands for a wedding, that should be fun because its her first time on a plane and seeing an ocean!

  4. yo what degree would be good for gettin into travel companies, im undecided but travel is one thing that interests me.. just curious

but 2011 im going nowhere =(..no money, in college. but 2016ish is when ill be going on my adventures

  5. Many colleges offer travel/tourism degrees, but a lot of it depends on what you want to do- the travel company I work for has accountants, an IT department, human resources, etc. Of course, none of those positions involve much traveling- if any at all.

More important then the degree is typically having travel experience yourself. I'm a college dropout, but I was a self-employed travel photographer for many years. My colleagues have degrees in all sorts of disciplines- geography, political science, geology, economics, etc. But they all have had a lot of experience in traveling and/or living overseas.

  6. k thanks for the info. i guess ill just stick to my plan, me and a friend are gonna travel everywhere but the middle east and antarctica a few years after college. ill look into the travel industry after i have that lifetime experience and my degree.

  7. I'll be going to the Pacific Northwest: Seattle, Vancouver, and foremost Whistler to ski this spring break. I can't wait.

  8. Thailand in the Summer, New Zeland in the Winter.

  14. My favorite history teacher said once, "Traveling is the best thing in the world."

    He was so right.

  15. Weird, I'm on my first ever "vacation" I'm going up to Big Bear Lake tomorrow for 5 days. It's supposed to snow from Thursday til Sunday. Taking my vaporizer and about an oz. of assorted strains, headband, pineapple, redwood kush. Staying in a cabin in between 2 ski resorts.

  16. Thailand for three months :)

  17. aha figured out my summer plan! me and a friend are gonna bike down the florida coast with just a backpack of necessities and a tent.. were gonna camp a different place everynight, and ride all the way down to the florida keys.. camp there for a few days, snorkel, get high etc.. and then ride all the way back up the way we came.. it will be cheap and interesting

I'm planning on going to Seattle and Vancouver this summer and, if I can foot the bill, Denmark next fall.

I'd REALLY like to do the Fjällräven Classic (a 7 day, 110km trek from Nikkaluokta to Abisko) in Sweden next year but registration is closed and I don't have the money. I'll probably do it in 2012.

  19. Haven't been on a vacation since 2006, and at least a few years before that :(
This year certainly isn't looking better in that regard, but hopefully after some years of hard work I'll finally be able to start traveling again.
