MODS: I don't know if this is in the right section or not. I couldn't find a science, philosophy, religion or politics section so I figured I'd just leave this here.

If the celebrity status was people like engineers and scientists etc. The world would be such a better place to live, instead of stupid actors/singers being our role models of society. How are the people that propagate material possessions, and make no social contribution what so ever to this world, portrayed as our role models? What are we fucking stupid? What are we achieving by wanting to be like our favourite celebrities by wearing the same fashion labels as them? But if the celebrity status was people that actually contribute to this world by helping us advance our understanding of the world, then wouldn't everyone strive to be just the same?

Name a notable scientist/engineer/philosopher from ancient Greece... now name a notable entertainer from ancient Greece.

Name as many notable scientists/engineers/philosophers from the 19th century as you can... now as many notable entertainers...

Understand my point? Now granted it doesn't really explain why Snooki is more recognized than someone like Neil deGrasse Tyson but you can rest easy knowing that 50 years from now their names will not have faded anywhere near so much.

I suppose that's mostly to do with the fact people more infatuated with Snooki or Lady Gaga than they are with advances in understanding and technology aren't the kind of people that bother to consider the importance of records and history, so their infatuations fall at the roadside while the academics are keeping track of things.

An interesting point someone bought to my attention.
Have you ever met somebody whom really tired in maths but never could get the hang of it? The type of person whom would go to extra math help and still make 60's on there test's/quizzes? Well this is the reason not everyone is a engineer, some people are much more brilliant then others, which is why not everybody is studying dark matter in the centre of the milky way.

So do you think people with autism are a useless to the society? .. Because they are not engineers?

I failed terribly in school, yet I happen to have an IQ of 141? You don't have to be an academic to be intelligent and intellectual. There is a fine line between smart and intelligent, i may not be great at maths but I can debate, I can philosophize, I am open minded enough to accept conspiracy theories. When the people I went to school with that were straight A students are still nothing but sheep sucking on the giant cock of propaganda, consuming useless materialistic goods, then making that a social status.

What i mean is, if we could start over, and the "propaganda" was aimed more toward the science's achievements and discoveries. Then perhaps the world would have a lot more smarter people.

    /discuss.

TL:DR Political debates probably aren't for you. It's worth the read though :D

  2. It is human nature. People are generally simple minded and dont appreciate scientific discoverations in good stride.

  3. Let me just list the millions of places Society went wrong real quick...

The fact that we spend more time talking about celebrities than we do educate the public on things that they then VOTE ON is absolutely ridiculous. I am at a point now where I see no hope for America.

  4. political coruptness, propaganda, and our instincts to fall into a path of lazyness once basic needs are met are what u you put in the "melting pot" why do people not see they have been being robbed all these years? with the amount of wealth in this country i dont see why people are against so called "socialism" fuck you enact socialism into this damn country we will all be living fairly well. man i watch a doc where a 6 year old girl had to eat rats because her family was poor, and it was in america.. i dont understand why anyone NEEDS to make more than 1 million dollars a year, even $500,00 you are living FUCKIN GOOD!!

  5. Bullshit it's human nature.

If it was human nature, why can many people appreciate the arts and sciences?

It's all about the environment you grow up in.

  6. Yes, but if there weren't rich people, there would be no control, or influence over the government. If everyone could live off $500,000 a year. then 500 thou, would no longer be 500 thou. It would then become the new average wage. Inflation would take place again, and it would be no different from before $500,000 a year would be, anything between $40,000 to $80,000 a year now.

  7. Or propaganda had just led you to believe, it's okay to accept the fact that people are just sheep to the rest of society. Sheeple if you will.

  8. Bankers.

    Simple really.

  9. Any society with a monetary system in place, will never work. Because there is always that 1 person that feels he needs to be better than the rest.

  10. lol any society with no money will just have to barter which is more of a pain in the ass and doesn't work nearly as well as competing currencies.

Unless you think trading should be illegal...

And for the record people ARE better than others and competition is what creates innovation, invention, and wealth.

  11. we dont need an outside influence over the influence. there are greedy ass people out to make a shit load of money by fucking up the earth, and the citizens. the government needs to be filled with people who actually care about the issues and want to make a positive change for this country. not people who are better actors than hollywood and can be bought out...

  12. All those great things. Then lead to greed. Which is bad. Trading, illegal. Ehhh, yeah I suppose that might help.

    Were societies ever really "right?"

Every society that's ever existed in this world has been seriously flawed in one way or another, the Greeks were barbarians, the society that won our freedom from the Brits allowed slave ownership, today's society strongly supports the idea of throwing our youths in cages for possessing natural plant matter, etc.

  14. Yes, well. We could start by bombing the white house. All the parliament buildings around the world. V for Vendetta style! WHOO. Rid the world of those who corrupt it.

  15. Greedy people can't succeed in a free market because they care more about profit then their services or products, thus not allocating and distributing resources as efficiently as competitors.

The only way greedy people gain power is IF YOU LET THEM. People need to stop blaming the greedy people and start blaming yourselves/society for not stopping them.

And you want to outlaw trading? LOL ok you can grow your own food, make your own clothes, build your own computer, chop down your own trees and build your own house, build your own car, mine your own resources, etc..

  16. i think that is probably going to be the tipping point, and i dont really think were that far off.

  17. International trading maybe. Would be much better for our countries economy if we all built our own shit.

  18. No oil or minerals for the middle east?

You better buy a bike and forget about having an abundance of electronics.

Nothing from china either? Be ready to start paying 4-10x if not more as much for basically anything manufactured in a factory.

  19. Indeed, there would in fact be a massive inflation take place. Perhaps not everything per say. Just things like, your fruit and veggies. Fish even! That's right. In Australia, we import our fish, and export the ones we get. Now how fucked is that. I'm sure there are plenty more things as well.

  20. i think the point is we are trying to live beyond our means. perhaps we dont need all this useless shit in life?
