Not going to comment on the hunting thing I have a level IIIA Point Blank vest, it's soft armor and pretty light, I wear it under my shirt. I'd recommend it, and the price isn't bad. Only ballistic vest I've ever owned though, I wore a different kind when doing patrols when I worked as a prison guard, I couldn't tell you what kind it was. Shop around for the best price. I would avoid buying it used, as you don't know how the previous owner has maintained it. If you're going to buy it, might as well buy it in as sturdy shape as you can.

I dont think any amount of armor will protect you from a grizzly bear. They'll just use the armor to seal the juices in.
Body armor is designed to stop small projectiles, not an all-around defense barrier. What you need is a bite suit.
