Where are my ectomorphs?

Discussion in 'Fitness, Health & Nutrition' started by NadaConnoisseur, Jul 28, 2011.

  1. I know there are members who are training ectomorphs (underweight, tall, or limby), aka hard gainers. Are there any successful weight gaining "hard gainers" that toke and are in shape ? I've tried creatine and some weight training at my local gym alone and gained about 10 -15 lbs. So tell me what do you do to be successful? Do you ever toke before working out or training ? I will be transferring to a university hopefully within the year and work my way to earn a degree as a health fitness specialist :)

  2. I consider myself a hard gainer and havent really ever noticed a size diference. Creatine hasindeed proved my performance bit cant say about weight and size. Looking for peoplewho know more to post :D

  3. I definitely noticed a difference when I took creatine, but my size did not increase much. I can't afford to go out and eat pasta and other carbs a lot. I hope to find some helpful posts.

I'm the definition of an ectomorph. I ran cross country and track for 4 years in high school and was ~135 when I got to college. I got up to about 175 this past spring. I've lost some fat since then, so since then I've been holding steady between 165 and 170. My lifts have all gone up over 100% since I started working out seriously. I blaze before workouts all the time. The main thing that has helped me to be successful is consistency. While I've fallen off the wagon a couple times, overall I've been pretty good about getting workouts done and eating properly. I am constantly learning new things about improving my fitness and I apply them daily. The smarter I train, the more results I get. Creatine can be helpful, but overall caloric intake and macronutrient profile is far more important than any supplements that you take.
I play rugby for my school competitively and I've retained all my speed and enhanced my cutting ability as a result of getting stronger. Hitting people is much easier on my body nowadays, whereas before I used to bounce off some people.

EDIT: Milk is sooo helpful for ectomorphs trying to gain weight

  5. most people think being a ectomorph is bad, it just means you have to eat more. endomorphs have to watch very carefully about what they eat, where as we have a more flexible diet. for example, you probably could have micky d's once a week and be fine but a endomorph wouldn't be able to do that. i think in the long run, its better to be a ectomorph because of the high metobolism, my opinion.

  6. I'd say I'm a pretty good example of an ectomorph starting at 5'8 and 100lbs.

I'm 130 now and have gained a considerable amount of strength but still need to gain another 30-40 pounds to be where I'd like to be.

I started squatting and deadlifting so I"m hoping that's going to help me reach my goals faster. Squatting is a bitch though since I have a small amount of muscle on my back so the bar bruises the fuck out of it.

Also I can barely hold the weights I bench. I'm using dumbbells and have gotten up to 5 reps with 75lb dumbbells but I tried picking up the 80's and sitting down with em and I feel like I'm gonna pass out just from sitting down. I could only hold the weights at my chest for 4 seconds before dropping them so I won't have to worry about em for a few more weeks.

I really need to gain weight though, I'm kind of wanting to post pics of my diet and self since you guys probably wouldn't believe what I eat considering I haven't gained much weight.

  7. Things that help me out are

having jobs that are low stress and regular hours without overly physical labor
big glasses of milk fortified with a scoop of protein powder
    working out my legs

meals high in protein right before bed; I am a firm believer that the majority of muscle recovery takes place during sleep and I seem to make better gains and get over soreness faster if I munch a chicken breast or big bowl of chili right before bed. I also drink lots of water before I hit the sack too. That way I'll wake up and having to pee and can eat some more food at 3 am.

  8. Wow that must suck. Being a hard gainer.

  9. i'm an ecto.
It's really a mind over matter thing.

plus people who say they eat a lot, 99.9% of them don't eat as much as they should be.
    The same goes with water.

  10. I'm a hard gainer.

I was stuck at 150 for the longest time, It also doesn't help I have a fast metabolism and I'm 6'1.

I'm up to 165 and slowly I'm getting a bigger upper body. My lady loves it.

    Just hang in there

  11. haha i have 2 jobs dealing with kids and idiots all day along with hours that flutuate and takes a decent amount of physical labor

I feel you there. I'm about 6' 1 & currently stuck at around 145 lbs.

You're right, it is. I'm going to try to add more pasta, rice, pizza, and chicken to my diet. oh yeah, i NEVER eat neither vegetables nor fruits; however, there are a couple of fruits that I find somewhat TOLERABLE. Also, I am about to order this weight gainer supplement, Heavyweight Gainer 900. I've read up that it is some of the best tasting stuff on the planet it WILL put on lbs if taken correctly. So hopefully it will work like a charm on me. Also, I plan on taking micronized creatine since creatine helped me gain muscle in the past.

  12. Ive got a jug full of casein protein for breaking down and digesting slowly during sleep hours :)

  13. Definitely a hardgainer.

I havn't worked out everything in a while because I injured my chest playing basketball(possibly fractured something, but its whatever).

I don't work out if I've smoked the day/night before, but maybe I'll come home, eat all I can, wait two hours(I heard a rumor MJ drops testosterone levels?), and then smoke and eat a shitton of protein.

When I was going hard, I would have 3 scoops of whey protein a day, and I went from 168 to 175 in about five weeks, but I could feel myself getting much stronger, and I just looked bigger as well, even if it was only 7 pounds. I'm at around the same right now, barely maintaining since I can't do more than ten pushups without my chest exploding in pain.

Shoulders and legs I'm still working out but...it's just not the same.

EDIT: If the weight seems off for someone who's supposedly an ecto, it's because I'm 6'4.

If you're tall, skinny, long arms & legs, and supposely hard to gain weight on a regular "eat what you want" diet, then you're classified as an ectomorph. As far as a rumor of the drop in testosterone levels, I have not heard of that but I can see where it makes sense, not scientifically though. I notice when I don't smoke for a few days then I become a little more aggressive.

edit: When I was more committed to working out and did more than half-a** on my supplements, I noticed I became more toned. Did not notice getting stronger, but when I stopped, I definitely noticed when I became weaker.

  15. Hard gainer. 6'1 145. I plan to start lifting once school starts in a couple of weeks. My goal is to get to 170 lbs.

  16. what a coincidence cause i am the same weight & height and getting supplements in next week. I wanna bulk up and to 170.

  17. yoo anyone here ever have problems with feeling effects from edibles? Im thinking that my fast metabolism may be playing a part.
