Gravity Bong. All you need is a glass bowl. Usually I just use a bucket of water and half a large water bottle (Smart Bottles work best for me). Cut yourself a small hole in the cap large enough for your bowl with the herb to slide in. Put it in the water bottle, and sink it in the bucket. Light and slowly lift. (There are multiple guides on how to make one too if I wasn't too clear.) Anything that requires you to heat plastic/aluminium is unsafe and not recommended. A gravity bong is the best alternative if you don't have a glass bong, but you have a glass bowl.
I once built a vaporizer out if a soldering iron, a few pieces of brass, a mason jar, 4ft of 3/8s pvc hose and a dimmer switch. Worked as good as a lot of store bought vapes at the time and cost like $20.

It's the best to be creative. I've used about every food item imaginable: pumpkin, parsnip, apple, carrot, squash, and...probably forgetting some things. The overall craziest item would probably be a tennis ball. That, of course, was a bad idea and I'm not sure if I actually got a hit that didn't involve rubber. I attached a small piece of a copper pipe that I had clamped in the middle to make a bowl on top and a stem on bottom to a special PVC connector I found at one of my dads ac work sites where he just threw it away and then I took a lid from one of those kids juice things that squeeze out and melted it on to the other end then drilled a carb with a knife it looks pretty legit
