When would an employer typically drug test?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by daman007612, Jun 11, 2019.

  1. I received and accepted a job offer almost 3 weeks ago. Signed the offer letter over 2 weeks ago. No mention of a drug test or the offer being contingent on passing a test in the offer letter. I didn't see anything about it on the job application/posting or in any of the paper work I have from the company. My previous job had mentioned that passing a test was a condition of the offer, so that was obvious.

I start on Monday so pretty sure I won't be getting a pre-employment test as they most likely would have asked for it already. Has anyone ever been drug tested their first day/week with no notice?

Job is not a safety sensitive position (driving, heavy machinery, etc) nor is it a government job. Will be sitting at a desk in front of a computer.

Would love to hit the vape in celebration, but of course I'm being paranoid.

    Thanks!

  2. Absolutely wouldn't hurt to either wait another week, or be pre-prepared for an unsupervised test.

  3. I would most definitely wait until your first day/first week is done and over with, that way you are absolutely sure there will be no surprise test. Employers are allowed to do as they please, especially with a new employee. To be on the safe side I would wait. You've already waited this long so i'm guessing you can hold out a few more days? I would imagine you would feel better if that was the case.

Good luck! Remember this is a new job, you don't want to take any chances!
Cheers and here's to you! :smoke:

Realistically, most companies who drug test won't invest much in you until your test comes back clean. Hiring you first, then test and have to terminate you creates legal obligation issues and expense on their part. Waste of time.
