When should I transfer my seedlings that are planted in FoxFarm Light Warrior Seed Starter into a regular pot filled with FoxFarm Ocean Forrest soil? The tap root of one of my seedlings (the smaller seedling depicted below) has went through one of the holes on the bottom of my Solo cup, and I want to transplant it, but I'm worried about weather the Ocean Forrest soil will burn the plant or not at this point...
I figured the earlier, the better due to the fact that It wouldn't have to through the shock of transplant at such a crucial stage in veg....I planted my in the pot fairly early and she's doing fine...no worries about her roots because they got all the room they need now. Check out my grow to see what I mean
Okay lol.. yall both claimed 2 different things.. Normally I would wait, but the only reason I'm asking is because the taproot has gone straight through the bottom of the Solo cup on the smaller seedling...
I wait until the plants leaves reach beyond the edge of the solo cup. By that time, the leaves are usually starting to droop from lack of root space anyway. EDIT: if the taproot went through the bottom, and the medium is dry enough to transplant I'd do it now.
if the medium is too wet than it will be difficult to transplant without damaging and/or tearing the root structure. When the medium is dried out, you can usually just tip it upside down and pull at the base of the stem and it will slide out. However if you absolutely need to transplant and the medium is wet than you can very carefully cut the solo cup down each side and try to pull each half of the cup down so you can pick up the root ball and place it in it's new container.
If your tap root is hanging from the bottom of the solo cup, isn't that a sign to give her roots more room? You can clearly see its time for more space/bigger pot...just be delicate and I agree, dry transplants would work wayyy better, less worries, less stress...
Do it. I waited about 5 weeks under a 75w light from walmart bc i was worried they'd burn up too. shit took forever and was kind of a pain in my asshole trying to get the rootball out without damaging it. If your root is exploring outside of the cup, sounds like its time to transplant to me. I am a noob, however.
I transplanted it into it's final pot. There wasn't much root structure at all, but hopefully it'll be ok.
I know its an old thread but for other new growers who may read this...leave in solo cup at least 3 weeks...if you see the tap root poking out...gently push it back in.
