When to start Flowering

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by purple kush7, May 8, 2011.

  1. I have a 20 inch Indica in vegetative that is a clone from the mother plant.

My first question is if i take a clone from this 2nd generation will the clone (3rd generation) lose potency/bud production or will it be the exact same DNA therefore same plant?

Second question is about what hieght is good to start flowering so that I can max bud production on this plant. I was thinking about waiting till about 2 feet but I am new to growing and have no idea?

    Thanks for the help

  2. I don't grow from clones myself, but I think I read somewhere that you are good up until about 5 generations, then it starts to deteriorate. That's why many people growing from clones keep mother plants.

The answer to your question on when to flower really depends on your situation. You can expect the plant to double in size during the 40-60 day flowering period (roughly for an indica, but it depends on strain), so you need to take into consideration any grow room size limitations (area and height). Given unlimited space, pot size and time you can in theory veg a plant indefinitely and then switch it to flower.

Basically, the longer you veg your plant for the higher yield you will get. Remember that the ideal pot size is 1gal for each month of life.

  3. well since the clone from the original mother is an exact copy of its mother the clone from the clone will also b an exact duplicate aswell,as far as the hight its all on you,do you have the space and lighting for a large plant? what kind of light are you useing?this grow i threw my plants into flowering at 14 inches they are now 30!!! my indica dominant plant was 9 inches and 4 weeks into flowering its now 24 inches so just think when you you throw them add atleast a third or more of its hight to what it will be when its all said and done take care and good luck...

  4. Thanks guys for the solid and speedy response. I have enough room for 6 foot plants and am using a 250 watt MH and 600 watt HPS. I think i will give her another week before I throw her under the HPS.

Her mother was 12-14 inches when she started flowering and is at 7 weeks and is 24 inches tall. I will just replace her when I harvest.

  5. Sounds good to me, but if you want to veg longer, it's not too late to start a scrog.

  6. well this harvest will be my first complete time growing.. So the second generation that is in vegetative right now will be my 2nd attempt. Maybe I could look up how to do a scrog and make it happen..I just am trying to minimize the amount of mistakes I can make.

  7. It's really easy. As long as you are careful not to snap stems, you can't really fuck up LST or scrog. The main thing to remember is to tuck away fan leaves to keep the growth tips exposed to as much light as possible. Then just either weave the branches through the screen or cable tie them in place. Keep going until you've filled the screen. Allow to veg for a week or two more and then set them to flower. You get colas forming at each node of each stem.

It takes a bit more work, but I quite enjoy LSTing and scrogging and I have the time.
