when to start 12/12

  1. My plants are about 6 - 7 inches high now iv been growing them under 24/0 of light for just over 10 days now since they first peeped out from under the soil.

They have some nice fan leaves on them and i was just wondering
how do you know when its time to switch to 12/12 light so they can flower?

I plan to have a faster grow then last time.

My first grow i had 16/8 using a small 18w growlux for veg and then for flower i used a evirolite which was 125w. Since i only grow two plants i chose the 125w.

My last grow i had a nice crop but it took longer then 55 days to grow it was more like 85 days
But this time i am doing 24/0 under the 125w evirolite which is like a 1000w since it s giant CFL
and soon im hoping its time to switch to 12/12 for flowering.

Here are some photos of my babys taken today.

Do they look anywhere near ready to flower?

  2. You can put the plant into 12/12 whenever you want, but...

    - The longer you veg the bigger your plant will be (equals more bud at harvest).

    - Your plant is not ready for sexual maturity, which you can tell by when the plant grows alternating nodes.

If it were me I would use some LST and veg for 2-3 more weeks at least.

  3. The first sign that your plants are ready for 12/12 is alternating nodes. Your plants still have parallel nodes.

That being said, you can technically flower from seed. Just remember that the longer you veg, the more you will harvest.

If I were you I would look into some LST and topping or fimming. The combination of these techniques will do wonders for your harvest.

    Good luck.

  4. Now that is scary Toasty. Almost identical answers at the same time. Even the LST suggestion.

    Peace.

  5. I was just reading back on this thinking the same thing.

    Great minds think alike... ;)

  6. What is LST?

  7. This man speaks the truth.. i would suggest 2 more weeks before flowering.

I vegged over a month and my plant ended up being 5ft tall,

Shake it easy, bro..i cant wait to see how she turns out

  8. Im not sure how to low street train but i usualy just leave them to their own devices and i
water them once every 3 days and just check on them daily.

Im not in any hurry to flower i just forgot how long i left them to flower last time.

I was pushed to get a once of dry from two plants on my last grow.
Problem i have i space. I have 4 foot grow space thats why i chose indica because these top44
do not get very tall. Well the last one was about 2 or 3 feet tall
I feed them well when its time to flower i have home made organic fert i create using rabbits crap which has the right npk for mary jane.

Plus the soil i get is pretty good stuff only problem is that the place i buy it from ever single packet iv used is full of fungus gnats but this time i kept it under control but not over watering my plants
because if you just give the plats enough then its not like a swamp in the soil and then the fungus gnatts dont thrive.

What i thought was funny my last grow my girls sorted the fungus gnatt problem out for me.
The plants where to sticky from crystals that the fungus gnatts would go in close and get stuck to the crystals on the leaves and then i would just pick them off.

    Haha

My first grow i did have problems with spider mites but not this time "touch wood"

I promised my friend i would turn all the left overs "leaves and stuff" in to green dragon.
Might even makes some cakes with it too

  9. Imo, I'd get some more lighting, more fluros, or a small HPS

If your wanting more bud, that is going to be key aswell.

  10. If you think 1000w is not enough lighting for two plants then your crazy man

  11. ^^^^ He/she does not have a 1000w light ...

Watts are watts. A 125w is never going to be like a 1000w. Watts is a measure of electricity anyway, not light.

How many lumen does your 125w put out? Because a 1000w HPS puts out around 140,000 lumen. A 1000w is generally considered great over a 4'x4' space ... doing the math that's almost 9000 lumen / sq ft.

No matter how much light you have, you should train those plants to grow flat like a pancake. Then you can drop your lights really close, so the whole thing gets lots of light, not just the 'tip-top' of the plant.

  12. Low stress training. Iskander gave you the link, read up a bit. Basically it's tieing the plant down so that it grows lower, promotes much stronger secondary bud growth, and gets more light intensity to more of the plant. It's easy peasey.

And BTW you don't have 1000 watts, you have 125 (you even said so yourself). Forget "equivalent" watts, that's just a marketing term and is completely, totally irrelevant for growing.

  13. 125w cfl is eqal to a 1000w Says so on the box :) thank you very much
as for lumens i know there is over 8000 "i think"

  14. Son, you have some learning to do about lighting.

"Equivalent" -- that's exactly what I'm saying is what you need to ignore. Yes, it says that on the box, which is where marketing gimmicks often appear.

You have 125 watts of CFL lighting, period. Read up around here about "equivalent" watts, you'll see...

  15. I do know actualy. I know that you could grow it just as well under a growlux "others would beg to differ" But some one in our family went on a specialist lighting course and honestly more fool the people that use hps and similar lighting.

I get a good crop of my lighting more then i would ever use so why use more when your happy with the results?

People always gotta dig at the lighting.

My plants took 7 days to look like they do now under my 125w and i think its good.

  16. I'm not dissing your plant, just pointing out the wattage of that bulb, which is distinct from the marketing gimmick of listing some "equivalent" wattage.

  17. Im just saying the light is good. I knwo its 125w but the bulb is so big that it takes both hands to hold it. Its like a giant cfl a monster lol.

But it gives good light coverage over my plants.

When its time ofr harvest i think i will regenerate her for a second harvest.
That way you can cut out a lot of veg time.

I am happy with what i get from the 125w evirolite

  18. LOL... you guys are so patient, it's awesome.

ROFL... by any chance were you in that one Burger King commercial?
