When to harvest?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Poiison, Apr 29, 2016.

  1. Hi guys, Im a newbie grower, this is my first plant ever. I had it in veg for about 2 months. Its almost a month into flowering now. The main cola looks like its ready to harvest (to me) but the rest of the buds underneath still have white pistils. Its starting to smell a bunch. I am following the fox farms trio feeding schedule, and according to the schedule i still have 2-3 weeks to go. I have some pictures from a few days ago. Ill have some new pictures posted soon.

If you need pictures while its not under the LED light i can take some of those today as IMG_0350.JPG IMG_0351.JPG IMG_0352.JPG IMG_0353.JPG IMG_0354.JPG IMG_0355.JPG IMG_0356.JPG IMG_0357.JPG IMG_0358.JPG well

  2. From what i understand your best way to know when to harvest is look at the trichomes under a loupe or magnifying glass. The trichomes will go from clear to cloudy to amber, when to harvest depends on the type of high youre after, the more amber trichomes the more couch-lock. There's a bunch of threads that explain it better

  3. another month.

you want the calyxs to start to swell, the pistils to turn amber and recede into the bud, and at a distance the buds should have an amber tinge from the trichs starting to change.

  4. i have a magnifying glass but its not powerful enough to see the trichomes

  5. thats what ive been thinking, about a month. I just needed some more opinions on it :) I also asked because the pistils were turning colors early and that mad me want to ask

  6. that's normal for them to start changing around now. when 90+% of them are amber you are in the time frame to start thinking about harvest

  7. I'd let them go another 2-4 weeks but its best if you get a better magnifying glass. 60x or better.

Also just a heads up, some plants will really not amber up before they're done, so don't use that as a definitive. They always cloud up though which is where you want them. People normally say to look for amber trichs because the degradation has begun and the rest of the trichs are ready. I tossed my loupe years ago and now just look for the pistols to recede and the calyx' start to swell like stated above. I've forced many a plant to S1 because I was waiting for amber trichs. Lol just a piece of advise
