when to flower

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by cptpike, Jul 9, 2012.

  1. Hey all, plants are 1 month into veg (maybe 1 1/2 month).. foot tall+/- and bushie...will plants continue to grow diring 12/12? and should I 12/12 now?

  2. hmmm. shit Im new to the whole thing myself but since it uber interesting I try to help out so anyone can correct me, but Id say. Yes you can switch, some even flower from week 2 or so, they will continue to get higher. Its called stretching.

Info on the genetics etc wouldnt hurt. Im growing amnesia right now which is a pain in the ass because it takes so long, but I read on a german forum that they can stretch up to 200-300% of their height they went into flowering with.

    Helped?

  3. Tomason.. ahhh thank you very much... what is the advantage of letting the plants veg further? plants are northern mist and orange kush..from seed.

  4. Plants can stretch 2X-3X their hieght in flowering. So if you have a 2 foot plant in veg and switch over to a 12/12 flowering light cycle it can finish out around 4-6 feet. Sativas stretch more then Indicas.

  5. Longer vegging means bigger plant, but also means longer time. Thats why some people start to flower real early. Depends what you want decent ammount fast or more and waiting real long. Me personally, as begginer would stick to the official time the seller/vendor/creator of the seeds publishes on his side. You can always fuck around with that later if you know how to do shit for real ;)

Seed breeders and vendors don't publish veg times other than outdoor estimations. You want to veg until about 1/3 of your desired final height. Most strains out there are hybrids, and even if they are suppose to be indica dominant they can still take on a sativa phenotype. If this isn't planned for you can end up with plants that outgrow your area.

  7. Thanks people... we will clone and go to veg...

That's the first time I have seen something like that mentioned from a breeder, but it really only defines time until maturity from the way I am reading it. You could still veg longer if you wanted to do so. Evidently, they don't even publish that much information about quite a few of their strains. It was good looking through a few of them though. I've never seen a breeder recomend discarding plants that took too long to flower, very interesting.

  10. Haha no problem man. It says 4 weeks vegging and 7-8 flowering, but I agree, you can always mix shi up if you get more into the whole growing thing ;)
