when should I work out?

  1. Ok guys here's the deal, I have to be at work at 8am every morning. My job is real physical. Construction work and I'm picking shit up and outside all day so by the time I get home at 5pm I'm tired as fuck and the last thing I want to do/have the energy for is working out. Usually I get up at 7am and eat like 4 eggs then chill until I go to work. Should I maybe get up at 6:30am, eat, then work out or work out before I eat breakfast? I will be doing ab exercises, pull ups, push ups and dumb bell exercises.

  2. If my job was that physical I probably wouldn't work out.

    Certainly not before work.

Well I was thinking it might pump me up for work and I might preform better.

  4. if you are tired, but still want to work outside of your already very physical job - maybe consider a pre workout? I take one before working out, especially when I am just tired from school and it really helps me get focused and give mes a boost of energy to do my workout completely, and beyond. If you want to lift before work you could pre-supple before work/workout too, and the effects should last at least. Being the fact that it might not last you the whole day..

    tl;dr - per-workout supplement?

  5. I work manual labor to and I get the gym when I'm not tired from work which isn't as much as I'd like. Sometimes Ill go home, take a 30 minute nap, hit the gym hard, and go to sleep a little later that I usually would with no nap/workout. A 30 minute nap is good because it wont make you to awake at night to get sleep. It doesn't mess up your sleep cycle, but gives you a nice boost of energy.

Sometimes I wont drink any coffee/caffeine in the morning, work the day, and save my coffee/caffeine for before my workout to get the energy going. Smoking weed sure won't help if you smoke heavily the night before or even in the morning.

With working out, it really is QUALITY over QUANTITY. Do you have weekends off? Do upper body saturday, lower body sunday.

  6. I lift a heavy circular hammer thats around a small pole and drop it on an anvil all day. Its about 70 pounds, but someone does the other side so its 35 pounds per person. Each person lifts one side with one arm/hand.

I switch up my lifting technique all day long, sometimes lifting with my arm, then lifting oppsite grip as well. Then ill use more of my legs to lift instead of my arms. Try lifting things at your job using your arms for awhile, then try using your legs. If you dont have to hussle every second of the day, try lifting slower and setting things down slower. Get a workout in at your job if possible. Of course its not going to be a 5 star workout, but it will definetely help.

  7. This may be a rumour but i heard if you work out as soon as you wake up, and dont each much its best time to burn calories because you dont have that leftover fat to burn from eating all day.

probably not true, but it kinda makes sence.

  8. Do gym after work, 30 mins after you've eaten. After gym have a protein shake and shower. After gym you will actually feel better (exhausted but you will have all those endorphins so it's a natural high) after that you'll sleep like a log.

You can do some stretches and warmup before work so your not so sore on the arvo.

The first week you start working out you WILL get very sore the day after gym, but this passes after the first week or so, so long as you don't over exert yourself. Think of the first week as warming up your body to get back to building muscle, so take it easy in the beginning.

(always stretch and warmup for at least 10 mins before weights, stretch everything you can seriously)

The three pillars of weight training are eat ,sleep, train. all are equally important

Thanks. I think I'm going to try to work out after work. I'll just eat when I get home and chill for an hour then lift for an hour then go to bed. You're right, I'll probably sleep so good. If I want to get in really good shape I'm going to have to have discipline and work out even if I'm tired from work.

  10. If you work construction you shouldn't need to work out to get strong. Just work hard and make sure you eat right and you should be fine.

No, a lot of construction workers are fat and never get fit or muscley from their work. They might be tired at the end of the day but it's not the same as doing a session at the gym, at the gym you focus on specific muscles and you work them a lot harder. Work is mostly cardio and light lifting.

The vast majority of construction workers are not fat, especially if they're young. You can get just as strong doing construction work as you can in the gym. Work a couple days when they're laying down concrete and tell me construction is "light lifting".

You do not work your muscles a lot harder in the gym. There's also absolutely no reason to single out specific muscles if you aren't a competitive lifter or extremely advanced.

  13. +1 to that... If anything you would get more functional strength from just lifting in normal life situations.

It's totally true, if you are fasted when doing cardio or lifting, you give your body more chance to burn your fat stores because you dont have any food in your stomach for calories.

  14. Don't believe that man, I can promise you that it isn't true.

  15. Don't believe this guy, so many people have had success with fat loss when working out fasted. Just check out leangains.com

  16. Well now who the fuck am I supposed to believe

  17. check out leangains.com then make a decision

  18. I work out fasted everyday and wait about 2 hours after I've worked out to have my first meal.. IMO doing this is much better than eating pwo and pow.

Working out in the morning is a great idea. It'll wake you up and have you ready for the day. Try smoking and working out too. It'll relax your muscles and ultimately give you better results. Give it a try though! It should work.

  20. If your working out to get strong and big muscles then i would recomend short intense exercise and eat lots of high protein food, if its more of a fat loss/ health thing i would suggest you focus more on your nutrition if your getting plenty of exercise at work. Definetly work out before work too because short intense exercise followed by long easier exercise gets the best results.
