start training them as soon as they are long enough to do so. its all up to you. as the shoots and branches get older they get less flexible so pitter patter, get ater
I usually start training branches as soon as the is enough to tie without putting pressure on new leaves. (A few inches long maybe). Not the best example, but you get the gist.
