I have some plants growing they are a week old and I didn't fill the pots all the way with soil so they're in about 4 inches of soil. The plants themselves are 5 inches tall I was wondering when should I put them in bigger pots ?
if the rootball all comes out in one piece, its fair to say it is ready for transplant. you can check when the soil is dry. you will also notice shorter time between watering. pics always help.. if nothing else, people are interested in seeing the pic and will get views on your question.
Pics would be extremely helpful, you say its a 5 inch plant but it could be 80% stem, more information would be needed, are the roots poppin out the bottom? as the poster above said, if the plant comes out of the pot in one piece then you can go ahead and transplant. Ideally you want alot of coverage of the roots, I leave em till they're almost pot-bound and unable to give more with the space the medium offers, growth really takes off afterwards.
