Hi all, my username and title basically says it all. This season will be my first growing marijuana. I am doing it outdoors and I'm not really concerned about how tall the plants get. I'm likely going to be growing a sativa/indica hybrid. My question is when should I begin my grow? Without giving away too much information, as far as north/south is concerned, I live in the middle part of Massachusetts. I'm hoping there are some folks here who are familiar with the climate who could advise me on when to start the grow. I obviously don't want to start when it is too cold and temps can still hit theo low 40s and even upper 30s this time of year. So, how long should I wait? Thanks in advance!
I live in the area of Burlington, Vermont; feel free to adjust as YOU see fit. Yesterday, I planted two auto flower seeds to raise indoors for ~ one month and then harden off the girls and plant them outside. So... for me... here... the time was yesterday. I have been outdoor gardening, here, for forty years; No one KNOWS.
No true season for autos outside plan during the longest days coming up Sent from my SM-G935T using Grasscity Forum mobile app
In general June and July are the 2 months you can dependable veg in. Seeds take about a month to become light aware and can be directly planted outside in the ground as early as May1st. Assuming the ground is warm and any chance of frost or freeze is past. Cones are light aware at any size and will flower at the drop of a hat. Photoperiods should be run at 15-9 or 16-8 from germination for the best time matching. All this applies to Photoperiods. Autos don't care what the hours of light per day are and can be tossed in the ground at any time of year. BNW
Hey BNW Don't mean to hijack this thread but matches what I am asking. I live in Southern Oregon, I have 2 clones currently 18/6 and I want to plant them outside They are currently in I gallon pots in my veg cabinet. You mentioned setting the lights to 15/9 or 16/8 before moving outside. How long should I leave them at 16/8 before moving outside? My veg cabinet also has my bonzai mother if that makes any difference (I plan on keeping the mother vegging for a long time) What outside temperature (low) is OK for plants?
I grow in the same area. Currently I have them in solo cups ... two tiers and only a few inches tall. In another two weeks I’ll be putting them outside. Make sure you have a plan to keep roots cooler if you’re keeping them above ground. I ran into stunted growth with the black smart pots. They got very hot in the sun. The end of the season tends to be very wet, have a plan to cover them without touching budsites. I drag mine under a deck over hang during the nights that called for rain. You will get bud mold if it’s too wet late season. Also, I struggled with caterpillars as a result of the wet weather as well. DONT kill any wasps or bees that inhabit your area. They eat catarpillrs and I learned the hard way (stung by a wasp; killed two nests, caterpillars exploded).
Thanks for the Info JJ I have transplanted into 10 gal smart pots. They are about a foot tall and I have topped them and started some LST I have them in a wagon and I move them outside during the day and bring them into my shop at night. I have also added a hanging lamp in my shop and have it on a timer from 6 till midnight I will keep the light even when I move them permanently outside. (Until days get a bit longer) I will have a fence around them (deer), so I can cover if we get a bit of rain late in the season.
