When is it time for nutrients?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Nabber, Apr 3, 2023.

  1. My seedlings are 1 week old since they germinated from the soil.

I’m using Pro Mix HP as I’ve started them in a grow tent before they go outside in late May.

My question is, when do I start giving them nutrients? So many different websites offer different insights.

I’m going to be using Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect Grow, Micro, Bloom. I’ve attached a couple photos for reference to where the plants stand at 1 week old. Any help is appreciated. If the photos aren’t clear enough, I can take out of the grow tent for some photos.
    Thanks

  2. Wait 2 weeks & then only if needed.

  3. I try to keep it safe & prefer to top dress 1 x month. If I feel they need some liq nutes then it's molasses kelp, fish.

  4. Everyone grows different, but my little seedlings in promix get a weak nutrient solution as soon as they start to grow. Until harvest I also keep a grow journal if you want to look at some of my grows.

  5. I agree 100%. I use Promix BX and feed them about 10% strength as soon as they pop through the medium. I see no upside to not feeding them as soon as they break the soil. Especially in an inert medium.

  6. how about root burn? if it aint broke? IF your soil & water are good u should not need it that early IMO. However I'm a believer in if u think it needs doing then do it.

  7. Promix BX/HP have nothing in the soil. I said inert medium. And at 10% solution for chemicals, youre not going to burn the roots. Ive been feeding my seedlings a small amount since I started growing under HID in 1977-78, Ever since HID came out. and have never burned the roots.

  9. after 1 week just a few drops in the water dont overwater

  10. Promix is a soilless medium. It's basically peatmoss with some perlite. I've grown in it for ages. It only has a very tiny amount of nutrients in it that the plant will eat up fast.

Like the others have said, you can go a week or two with plain water and then start with a weak solution (200 ppm), or just do it from the start and ramp it up gradually every watering. Increase it by 100ppm a feeding until you get to 500-600ppm. That's the strongest I ever feed during flowering. Although every strain will be a little different. You'll have to dial it in as time goes. After the first feeding you should always have nutrients in your water. Never feed plain water because it will only act as a flush.

And always lift your pots to tell when they need water. Peatmoss holds water pretty well so you might only need to water them once every 5-7 days. It could be longer when they're tiny at the beginning.

If you wanna learn from the master on how to grow in peat then check this out. Dr. Bugbee is amazing. You don't get many weed scientists like him working at universities.
