When you prepare a gallon of water mixed with nutes to feed, how much do you feed? Do you stretch the whole gallon throughout the week? I know it sounds like a dumb question but I know I have to be really careful about how I handle this. Currently I am growing in a solo cup but soon switching over to a 3 gallon pot. I would change my soil but I already bought coco coir so I’ll use what I have. I just want to make sure I feed it right.. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Depends on the size of the plant and the environment. But as a general rule, the coco should always remain moist. Some plants drink more than others. But for the sake of example; let’s say you have a 30 day plant in a 3 gallon pot. That gallon of water would probably last half the day for a good sized 30 day plant. Maybe the full day if the air was nice and moist and not too hot.
If roots aren't established, like a seedling or a new clone or a transplant, I do a light watering just at the base of the stem to encourage roots to grow out and seek moisture. If you do a full soak watering before roots are established the coco can get kinda waterlogged for a few days until the plant can drink it or the environment dries it out. I consider roots established once they reach the bottom of the pot. Once I see a root poking out of a hole in the bottom of the pot, I do full soak waterings to about 20% runoff, everyday, watering with plain ph'd water once a week. I made this crappy pic a long time ago.
That picture is awesome. What I’ll also add, is that when they get to a certain age, they’ll actually pout when they are thirsty. I’ll go outside see them looking very sad, literally about a minute after I water; they are perked back up ready to sun bathe.
Thank you for your response! In my instance, I have fox farm nutes. Just because of the growing medium i have, I have to revamp their feeding schedule, correct? Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Yeah since you’ll be using it in coco, I’d say follow the general rule of thumb and do 25% strength and read your plants to see if you need to make it stronger or keep it consistent. Usually .25-.5ml per gallon is my sweet spot. But I water 2-3 times a day from start. So high frequency fertigation allows my low feeds to work.
Pictures worth a thousand words, it’s not too hot today so she wasn’t too mad at me, but this was just a minute after watering.
