When does growing become worth it?

Discussion in 'Beginner Cannabis Consumption & Tips' started by Caldwell, Sep 4, 2012.

  1. Hey blades, currently I live in Arizona, have a MMJ card and spend 400 a month on high grade cannabis. My question is, how much would it cost starting from nothing ( no plants, lights, pots, anything ) to being able to grow my own supply.

I don't know if I worded that correctly at all but what I'm asking is what is the LEAST amount of money required to grow high quality herb?

PS: I've posted this in the cultivating section with no help so I'm asking here.

  2. Depends on if it's indoor or outdoor grow. Also depends on the method of growing (hydroponic etc). But honestly growing just 1 plant is well worth it.

  3. well like I literally don't know anything about growing. it would indoor in a bathroom or closet. I could use a larger room if I had to. but I didn't know if its the kind of thing where I could plant the seed with a few basic lights. Because if seen some grow rooms with foiled walls and a million lights and shit.

So it would be indoor with classic pots and soil

  4. biggest things are lights and ventilation. if the room has windows you can just leave a window open with a fan on. if not its going to require some more work. for one or two plants you really dont need anything crazy in terms of lights. go look around in the growing section here they'll be able to help a lot more

  5. It depends on a lot. First of all, how much do you usually smoke in a month? That will tell you approximately how many plants you'll need. Then from there you decide what kind of space and equipment you would want. There are a lot of grow guides on this website that would be beneficial to decide on how you want to set it up.

  6. You really don't need much, it's all about how you make things work with the materials you've got. The 3 basic things you need are bright lights, a way to raise/lower the lights, and a fan. With those basics, you can grow anywhere in the house. It all depends on what you're willing to put in to the grow :)

Indoors requires a bit more of a start up investment, but if you are going to do it, do it right and get the proper equipment. You could get a setup to grow 2-3 plants yielding 2-3 oz each for 400 dollars and the yield would pay off your investment just with the money you save not buying weed. I've yielded enough from my grow setup to pay for it many many times over just because it's so much cheaper than buying good weed here in mass.

Unless you can pick up a quarter-half pound for 400 dollars then you'll be able to get more for your money growing. Plus it's a super fun hobby, and a treat to enjoy your own smoke.

The things you cannot go cheap on when growing indoors: Odor control, ventilation, light proofing, and security. These things you should do right if you want a successful harvest, you can go cheaper on a lot of things to grow but these you want to make sure are done right.

  8. thanks morange good advice, I'll do some browsing in the cultivating section and get an idea of equipment prices.

  9. growing is worth it if you have the place to do it and the money.jus be sure not to skimp on the setup, youre buds will thank you

  10. You could accomplish a good setup, and I mean real good probably, for about $600. My current one was closer to $450.

It takes about 3-5 months from seed to harvest, but you could harvest between an oz and a qp, with HID lighting and solid genetics you should pull over an oz a plant. Also, don't forget you can use the trimmings for concentrates like oil and edibles like brownies or alcoholic drinks (green dragon).

  11. I did my original ghetto set up for about $100! 4 shop lights, rubbermaid tubs, cheap potting soil, steer manure and a bit of scrap lumber was enough to get me just under 4 ounces for my first grow! :D

My setup paid itself off pretty fast! :smoke:

    Granny

  12. Well if you're like me and use your mmj for anxiety relief, the cannabis starts paying off immediately because it gives me peace of mind growing my medicine at home.

  13. i started with under 50 bucks and 48 days later i have this...if ur spending 400x12=4800 thats a grip of cash a year to spend on trees. u could use 1/3 of that and set up a nice grow are indoor or outdoor and get quality product everytime. good luck with you endeavors.

  14. I have about $800 in my equipment. Over the past year I harvested 23oz over three small grows. So, 652g for $800 comes to about $0.82/g. Don't know about your local prices, but that is pretty dam cheap for dank in my area.

  15. That's pretty damn cheap in ANY area!

  16. ITs always worth it if you're careful

  17. You mean 0.82g per $1.00. It would be $1.23 per gram ;)

Either way, cheap as fuuuuck :smoke:

Yea, your correct. I have a habit of transposing numbers.

And yea, you can't freaking beat it price wise.

  19. plants cost almost nothing after the innitial investment and u get DANKKK budds and a new hobby along with it, you just gotta learn from your mistakes as you go but still do your research before your first grow

  20. You forgot something, electricity isn't free.

Unless of course you bought solar panels, cause those could end up paying for themselves a few years down the road. Then it would be almost like you were growing your plants by using the energy of the sun, only indoors.
