When do i harvest?

  1. Hey guys,

So its been a month since flowering, and about a week ago my plant, tipped over because of the heavy buds on the top.. so i bought a green holder from home depot. and it looks like it is getting better. then today i used scissor to cut a bottom branch which had bud on it, and i smoked it. So any advice when to harvest? or what to do

  2. When 60-80% of the tricromes turn amber the plant is done

  3. ussually takes average of 8 weeks to flower

  4. dont listen to the trich assumption of amber vs clear vs milky,,,on which is right,,because new studies show that an amber trich is a damaged trich...buy and read high times..

Chopping early means reduced yields to avoid the amber.....balancing act

  6. And don't believe everything you read in High Times as Gospel , the
harvest answer depends on what * you* like in terms of taste , yield
    and potency.

  7. By the way folks , don't hand him the old " average is 8 weeks" he
might be growing out a 12 week Haze od Landrace , ya never know.

So what strain is it ( to the O.P.) I did I miss it in my creeping
    senility?

  8. I usually give a large flush around day 55 of flower and then just let her live as long as she can on that water. Generally the plant will create bud on top of bud for as long as it is in flower. The problem is, if you let it, you have immature bud on top of very old bud. As long as you keep watering you'll get new pistil growth. So around day 60 begin witholding water, let the plant go until the newest pistil growth has begun to wither and retract back to the bud.....You're now ready to harvest.

  9. these are studies,not hear-say!!

  10. My collection of High Times goes back to the mid '70s , that tell you
    anything?

The first rule is that there are no hard and fast rules. There are
just about NO agricultural endeavors of any type that can be rendered
    down to absolutes.

Sure we should avail ourselves of any and all information available
but in the end it's down to a judgement call on the part of the individual.

Observation over the decades indicates that of course such things vary
with the strain and what the individual cultivator desires in the end product.

  11. Looks great for cfls.

  12. ^^so are you telling me between time, technology, patience and attention, that scientist these days havent been able to read into a plants life....

its a fact that when something dies,it dies,no coming back.

if i followed the books from the 70's id end up with herb from the 70's....times change and trust me im smart enough to cypher out information.

  13. Yeah.. maybe if you had genetics from the 70's. The final product is about 90% genetics and 10% environment/technique. ;)

  14. not so true as lighting, feeding, watering, trimming, cropping, and curing techniques were quite different than today.

  15. lmao, that makes no god damn sense. i need to go over to the "stupidest things people have told you about bud" thread.

  16. You have any information you would like to enlighten me with? This is what i've read, i could be wrong, but i didn't pull it out of my ass. I don't see how it doesn't make sence.. genetics play a huge role, maybe not 90% but atleast 50-60.

  17. You know something? It rather seems that you may well be making some
rather erroneous assumptions as regards other individuals knowledge and
    experience.

See you really don't want to take the snide approach with me and start
nettering on about the '70s , I was there for them ok? I know the genetic
and developmental history of this plant via the medium of being present
    for many of those developments.

Now again I will make the point that you consistently are missing. WHEN
to harvest is an individual thing deoendent to a great degree on the taste
, potency , yield , etc the individual desires, Such factors can NOT be
quantified within the context of the REAL world , they're fine in a lab
setting. However lab results that fall on their face in real world application
    are relatively speaking completely useless.

In the end your OWN senses of taste , smell and sight are more
valuable in ascertaining when to cut than *any* book ot scientific
study , those are merely tool we utilise to help us make a decision.

I'm screwing with quite a selection of strains at the moment , your
hard and fast rule fails to apply across those strains and at times
across different phenos of the same strain. Though I will give you
that there are strains that are quite uniform in "readiness" , both
my Hindu Skunk ( Skunk Kush or Pot o Gold) and SuperSkunk are
such , if one is ready they're all ready. That said , different *effects*
can be had at different times based on trichome coloration.

Personally , and yes this is merely anecdotal , I seem to have
noticed this more with various hybrids that can be swung a bit
towards the sativa or indica side by actual time of harvest , not
so much with straight sativas or indicas.

Too many variables exist , from actual cultivation technique to
individual preference to be able to unequivocally state.

Harvest X strain when the trichomes are X , or for that matter
    " Harvest X strain on X day,"......

Trust your eyes , nose, fingers , taste buds and brain *first*.

I hope this clarifies my position adequately for you. And in
closing I'll remind you that the " '70s weed" that you seem to be
derisive of is what's behind all this genetically , and those genetics
are still around if you care to search them out. They're still quite
    worthwhile to work with.

  18. Where do some of you folks come up with these statements? You
can't possibly seriously believe the above?

Fantastic genetics mean diddly if you don't care for the plant properly.

  19. you harvest when the buds are dank looking lol. The darker the tric the more sleepy of a high. And if they go too long it becomes a headachey high

  20. Yup they do play a huge role , but it's not 90 percent , I mean
comeon I know that you've seen folks screw up good genetic
    stock with crappy care.

Incidentally there are still folks around groiwing that " 70s weed"
using modern techniques , and it stands right there with the 'fad of
the day' Baskin Pottins 31 Flavors of Weed , those are the genetics
that created what we have today.

I hold on to a Brown Thai for good reasons , though it's a pain
    in the ass indoor.
