When and How to Harvest?

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by Ms.Saucy, Oct 29, 2022.

  1. I am a first time grower (Canada) from seed to maturity and I just don't know the right time to Harvest. I have been told first frost etc however the ladies were late bloomers (about Mid September between the 12th-19th) is when the white pistols started) and it snowed a week ago-but didn't stay.

The weather has been significantly favourable lately (and will be for the next couple weeks or so as well). They have been flowering for about 5-6 weeks and are kinda sparse-just wondering if they'll get fatter or have made their prime.

Mostly outdoor plants but I did bring them in for chilly nights/storms and when it snowed.
We'll call the plants A (left circle pot) and B (square pot/no frills bag) cause I am sure they are two different strains Bubba Kush and Garlic Cookies but I had a mix of seeds and couldn't decipher which was which before I germinated them.

Basically I'm just wondering if I should leave them to enjoy the next warm sunny week(s) or harvest now & how long should I wait to Harvest after watering? I used no chemical fertilizers or growth boosters so I don't think I need to flush them either.

    Close-up of B (today). 20221029_123038.jpg Close-up of A (today) 20221029_123059.jpg

The trichomes still look clear to me but I also don't have a jeweler's loop so I figured I'd reach out to more learned eyes.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I did what you are doing seems like everything is late this year.
\Keep watching the weather and bring in for rain or frost (snow)
They look like they are getting close and you need to watch Trichomes
When 1/3 are amber and the rest cloudy I harvest, But anything past cloudy will get you high.
Amber makes you sleepy after a while .
Get that loop and check the resin glands on the bud not sugar leaves
    Good Luck

Since they are mobile and you have an inside space to protect from extremes of cold they can be run as long as good daytime sun and temps last.

I can't be sure but it looks like they might have some Powdery Mildew.

    Looks like this.
Edit:: Example from my own grow a few years ago.

High PH water will kill it.
1 Tablespoon Baking Soda in 1 Gallon of water.
Apply with any garden type sprayer but I recommend a brand new one and label it as to what it gets used for and ONLY that.

Yes that is a shot from my own grow. I got a little lax and missed spraying a couple of weeks in a row and the Powdery Mildew showed right up in late flower.

  8. Thank you!

  9. Thanks for the heads up!
Is the baking power okay for the flowering buds or am I too late in the growth cycle to be spraying?

  10. Thank you for the tips- I've been looking in the wrong place -In glad ai asked on here! I'm excited to see how they turn out!

  11. Good to know the Bubba (whichever plant it actually is indica) and Garlic Cookies is a hybrid but indica dominant... thinking maybe they didn't get enough hours in complete dark at the end of summer beginning of fall?

  12. **soda

  13. You can spray right up to day of harvest as it contains nothing. The soda only raises the water PH to higher then the mildew can survive.

  14. So you sprayed in late harvest and still ok to smoke or just make oil pills that you make for you injuries ?

  15. The Baking soda treated Cannabis is totally safe to both eat and smoke as it just raises the PH of the water.

Thks Does that also go the same for the potassium carbonate too?
I treated up to 4 weeks from harvest and have seen very small amounts of PM (one leaf once in a while ) on sugar leaves .

  17. Yes. Both Potassium Bicarbonate and Sodium Bicarbonate can be used interchangeably for our needs as PH up.
Most any high alkaline compound should work for this. We just need a PH of 10 if I remember to disrupt the cell walls of the fungus.
