Hey guys! This is my first grow, but now I have run into some problems! Yesterday when I watered the plant everything was fine, but today I noticed that one of my leaves had turned a little bit yellow. So I was hoping for you guys to help me out with this mystery.. Info: Strain: Easy Ryder, Autoflower Age: 24 days Light cycle: 18/6 Temp: 29 C ( 84 F) Light: 125 W CFL Watering: Allmost every second day when the soil is dry enough, 0,5 liter (0.13 Gallons) Nutes: Started day 14 with a very small dose of normal nutrients from the flower shop every time I water NPK ( 7,1,5) Other: If you wonder why some of the leaves is bent this is because the limited space in my grow box and the leaves is starting to grow big. The two baby leaves in the bottom of the plant are also yellow. So what do you guys think it could be? To much water? nute burn?
You are overwatering my friend. Go by the weight of the pot to determine when to water. Also, that soil looks like it doesn't drain very well. Do you have some kind of aeration amendment (perlite, etc.) in there?
looks a little over fertilized to me, I would rinse the soil out with just plain water and then give it a 1/8-1/4 strength nutrient solution. and then only fertilize every other watering . I would say it could also do with a step up in pot size if space allows
Thanks guys! I will try this things I dont think there is more space for a bigger pot...possibly a oblong one. There is a hole in the bottom of the pot. No I dont have any perlite in the soil, actually didnt think about that. Is that something I can put in/or maybe on top of the soil afterwards? Or is it to late? Today it got a little bit worse I also noticed today that my fans in the growbox is not switched on during night. Anyway corrected that and hopefully the plant will get more oxygen to help her out
perlite needs to be mixed in the soil so it helps drain it. not much you can do about that now. putting it on top will do nothing. but don't frett, that soil looks pretty light and airy anyway, are you letting the soil dry right out before watering?
Allright, thats good Will change that next time tho. Yes, I let it dry on the top of the soil then I put my finger down a "nail deep" to see if it needs water. Maybe I should let it dry even more? However, I will try the pot lifting method instead. Keep you posted if anything changes.
Yeah, if you put fresh soil in, pick it up and note the weight. Then, water it normally and pick up/note weight a second time. Then, you can continually just pick up the pot and note the weight. This should let you know when its dried out and needs more watering. You can always add more holes to the bottom of a pot, too, to help with drainage, but adding perlite will help even more. Good luck!
Best way to judge when to water is by the weight of the pot. If you are judging by sticking your finger in the pot, you shouldn't water until it's dry past the 2nd knuckle of your finger (2-3 inches down). And you do need some kind of aeration amendment in that soil, be it perlite or whatever. That's the problem my friend. You can't have a healthy root system in a heavy, compacted soil. And you can't have a healthy plant without healthy roots!
thank you for all the answers! Do you think it would help if I transplant into a bigger pot with perlite mixed soil?
You can wait until it's dry and really thirsty for water to transplant, so the rootball will slide out without damaging anything. I would definitely transplant into a bigger plant anyway, since it's about to start flowering and that's not enough root space to get a desirable yield. Make sure the new soil is aerated a good amount, and then give it a light feeding that is ph'd around 6.5 and she should be doing great.
I agree that drainage is very important but I disagree that this is the cause of your problem. lack of drainage slows growth and constant wet soil will give you problems but your problem in my opinion is over fertilisation
Ok guys here is an update! I started to cut down on the nutrients. I also cut down on the watering but I still noticed that more leaves turned yellow at the bottom..so I let the soil dry properly and then I transferred her in to a bigger pot 2 days ago with aeration amendment soil. The leaves that already where yellow turns even more yellow atm. How long does it normally take before i notice if she likes the new pot/soil better? Here is some pics:
You'll know if she takes to the container if the leaves aren't drooping a day later. Those last pics look great, it looks like you just need to give some veg food at proper PH and she will take off with lots of growth. EDIT: Just realized you have an autoflower. I'd give it either a very small veg feeding or it's first bloom feeding, depending on how far along you feel the plant is. If it's already far enough into flowering then giving too much N is just going to stunt the growth. However it is running low on N pretty early in the growth. You might end up just having to continue with bloom feedings and have less foliage near the bottom. Double EDIT: Only other thing I would have to suggest to you is maybe try to adjust the lights a bit, your top fan leaves are showing a good bit of clawing from the heat it looks like. Keep in mind that after 85 degrees F, cannabis growth is stunted a lot and will bud with airy and loose flowers.
I'll think I will go for a small veg feeding once more and then start out the the bloom. Lights is adjusted and thanks a lot for the help morange!
