What's up with the wood pellets, anyway?

  1. One damp early November day while salmon fishing, I came upon a Marijuana plant in the woods. It was a sativa about five feet tall. Despite the dusting of powdery mildew, the female plant was healthy. Just starting to flower. Obviously, it didn't finish. It was November and the growing season ended the month before. What was odd, was that who ever planted it used a top dressing of wood pellets scattered around the plant's base.
Any idea on the use of wood pellets?

  2. Mulch? To help keep any moisture in?

  3. That's about as good an explanation as any.
  4. Deer repellent?
