What size pots for Autoflowering?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by SmokingPurple, Dec 26, 2012.

  1. I need to purchase some organic soil, pesticide, and pots for my first grow. I ordered Sour Diesel x Haze Autos and Northern Lights Autos and I hear that they don't grow as much as regular seeds so I was wondering what size pots I should buy for these plants in order for them to grow to their max?

  2. I say 5-7 gals

  3. from what Ive read you need to be extra careful with autos to not get them rootbound cuz if they slow down, you cant get back that growth they missed out on.

  4. Will it's roots grow any more than 5-7 gals?

  5. no, id say 5 gal pot is perfect

  6. What does autoflowering mean?

    (during my growing homework)

  7. It's a type of seed that starts budding automatically, reguardless of the light cycle.
I hear that they finish from seed within 60-70 days.

Yep, it begins to flower based off of age not light cycle. But, you can always just begin flowering after 2 wks of veg. It'll end up finishing a few weeks later, but will be more potent and have a heavier yield, if grown in the same conditions and if it's the same strain just crossed with a ruderalis strain.

  9. I have tried all sizes on auto's

Auto's should be started in a larger container and stay there for the duration. The taproot goes straight down determining the eventual size of the plant. They like loose dirt. Be careful with the nutes.

  10. i put mine in 5inch pots, they get stunted for sure but because the pots are so small i can fit many more in to my growing area than i could if the pots were bigger. i get less bud per plant obviously but with far more plants i get far more final yield this way

im not saying this is any good for you because having such small pots you need to have the nutrients far more sharply balanced and watering can be every other day.

your pot size will be determined by your lamps and your space. a 1ft pot is going to be the max size you will need even with a large lamp. but if you do have a large lamp (600w+) autos arent going to do you any favours

i always recommend repotting at least once so you dont have the plant in a pot that is too big. if the pot is too big you dont get a fast wet/dry cycle and it will slow growth. more oxygen to the roots the faster it will grow

  11. Your crazy. I'm growing an auto under 600w and I could guarantee at least 3oz off it. That's a pretty nice favor round my parts. Autos have come a huge way and genes are getting pretty stable/consistent

  12. I grow autos under 800 watts of mh hps.
    Current auto super hash grow!

  13. I don't understand your point. why am I crazy exactly?

  14. This is what I was referring to

  15. Almost all my autos are grown in 3.5 gallon (a few 5 gal) containers. Unless you are extremely limited by the size of your grow room, why would you use such a tiny pot?

  16. Wow. Those look nice. Congrats! Auto's have come a long way haven't they.
