What should i do with my life?

Discussion in 'Real Life Stories' started by Dizzzyyy, Feb 8, 2014.

  1. Ok so heres where im at in life right now. im 18 years old and ive always had trouble in school. currently i am not attending any school but i only need 5 high school credits to gradtuate. ( I 100% know i want to and am going to graduate high school ) currently ive been working for my dad at the family buisness a few days a week in the meantime. my father and my uncle are 50/50 owners of a breakfeast/lunch restaurant. my father does VERY well. im talking 6 figures a year. they have pretty much made it clear if i want to i can overtake the buisness slowly. Theres 1 thing though. my dad is the hardest working person ive ever seen in my life. like he litteratly leaves for work at 5 am and some days isnt home till 6 or 7 at night. and a few nights ago he was litteratly puking from all the stress. i know some of you might think im crazy for even considering not doing this. but im not sure if i want to take on all that responsibility ever in life. one thing i have thought about if i decide to do this is 1st finish high school, then go to college for hotel/restaurant management. ive always thought of having a chill stress free life but its hard to turn this down. i would be the 3rd generation to keep the family buisness running. ( started as a donut shop 50 years ago ) Making 6 figures a year and carrying on the family buisness does sound appealing but im not sure if i want all the hard work long hours stress and responsibility that comes with it. and im at a point in my life where i realy need to figure out what i want to do so i need to make a decision soon.

  3. Take some time out and travel man. I came to Australia straight away after I graduated not knowing what to do with my life. And it's helped shaped me as a person and realise what I want to do with my life. Just my opinion. But it's done me well and I got to see an amazing country! Peace bud

  5. id be making some fucking bread though

  6. take a few months or years to just think. as long as your parents are cool with you living with them. just get a part time job become more mature and think.

  7. Your dad is fucking aces mate! Not many have that ethic anymore. But think... 30 grand less, and you can have someone run it for you. Your dad is old school, and we don't always work smarter, and that makes us work harder. But he had to support you. Take it over, take less money, stay on top of things, but hire someone to run it, and spend some time with your pops. Don't sound like he has had much of a life slaving away.

  8. Family business for sure. Going to take classes for restaurant management probably won't teach you as much as your dad can considering he is a 2nd generation owner of a very successful restaurant. Plus you don't have to pay for the school, then find a job. If you want to go into the restaurant business anyway, then this is the kind of opportunity people dream of.

Finish highschool and take on the family business.

You are here so I guess you're already a stoner. Maybe use weed to cope with it.
Youre dad sounds just like my dad. But him and his brother had a furniture store.

And as I saw (and suffered) his stress throughout the years I can only say one thing.
Don't take work too seriously. I'm not implying doing it wrong. But talking about your attitude towards it.Take it chill, you're supposed to enjoy everything ou do.
It's not worth making yourself miserable and others around you, don't get overcome by it.

  11. if you have the opportunity to go to college or something it seems like a shame to waste it in my opinion. Youd always have the restaurant to fall back on but remember youve got decades to run that restaurant try doing something different first

  12. If your heart isn't for running the family business- don't do it.
Obviously it was one of your father's goals in life to own a successful restaurant, but is it one of yours? Will you run the restaurant because you're passionate about it, or because you want to keep your father's dream alive?

I just think that everyone should make their own destiny, including you mate. Don't do something if you don't love it. Life's too short to be worried and stressed all the time.

And money doesn't equal happiness! You should truly learn to be happy and content with yourself.

  13. What do you want? Do you want sit around and do nothing all day? Do you wanna make a lot of money? You don't got it cause you don't want it, find out what you want and get it.
