I just tried to get a walmart prepaid visa card and when I needed to activate it it asked for ss number, mailing address, ect... So what cards do you guys use, because many on here use a prepaid card to buy their seeds and what not.
For lights, ferts, equipment -- anything that can be sold legally -- I use a regular credit card. For seeds I use a money order, they never ask for personal info to buy one. FYI a credit card does not offer the same consumer protections for international purchases as it does for domestic (USA) purchases, so to me there isn't much benefit to using a credit card to buy seeds.
Not trying to steal op's thread as I think this could help him as well.. How secure is money orders? I have never done one myself, but I will be buying seeds in the next few days for the attitude october special and am looking for the best way to do it..
Supposedly a money order has a trace and stop payment process as well. How well covered you are I'm not sure. If you're concerned I bet you could find out at 's website.
Hey toasty, how are ya. I had a question. When you fill out your money order, do you put your address on the front of the envelope near the top left, or do you just leave that blank with only the send to address? I was thinking of using a money order to. They are cheaper than spending 5 bucks to activate a pre-pay. I was just asking if you put your addy on the envelope cause I was curious if outbound mail is checked out for suspicious addresses....??? I dunno, what do you think.
If you're looking for a pre-paid that doesn't collect any info then I think your only option would be like a Visa Gift Card. Problem is I've only seen them in small set amounts and using them for online purchases could a problem since they don't have a registered billing address etc... I used my prepaid (and registered) card for my seed order from Attitude Seed Bank and it went smooth as silk. I put just enough on the card to cover the purchase and the conversion fee, ordered my seeds placed in a t-shirt and got them within a week. Not a bad t-shirt either. It was sent through customs listed as "1 t-shirt" in a plastic envelope you'd normally see a shirt shipped in with no return address and nothing suggesting that it wasn't just a friend in the UK sending me a shirt.
I can't imagine anyone in US Customs checking return addresses on outbound mail to what you might think of as a suspicious international destination address.
The thing I hate about using money orders is that it adds another step to the process and gives me a longer wait till I get my seeds. Maybe I should just learn to be more patient.
The point is to stay safe, not get your beans the quickest. If time is an issue just order an extra week ahead of time.
Got my beans a few days ago. USing the money order method. I was leaving my apt one day and I saw the package just sitting at my door, haha
Hello all, after studying and studying I decided to embark on my first grow. Now that almost everything (seeds, setup, just waiting on lights) all of which I purchased on my own credit card, registered under my government name, s.s. etc... I'm starting to think, are my personal purchases enough for a warrant? Seeing as though I have yet to start so my leccy is no problem. I'm in the US. Pm me for the State if it matters.
I was wicked skeptical about ordering seed offline too but I came to the conclusion that if you use a money order and use a reputable bank your chances are good to receive your shipment... plus like toasty said if all you get is a letter.... Im convinced I will be ok ordering 5 seeds here and there.
im currently looking for the same thing, I need a card for 100$ with no info. Im not sure how money orders work... Maybe im retarded but if somebody could explain them ide appreciate it. cause the cards aren't looking like a go...
A money order is simple: go to the place they sell them (Walmart, your grocery store, etc), tell them you want a money order and for how much, they take your money (I always pay cash for a money order to buy seeds) plus a small fee (my grocery store charges $1), they hand you a form with the amount of your purchase printed on there, you take that with you. You fill out no paperwork at the point of purchase. The form they give you becomes effectively a bank check, all you do is fill in the payee and send it on. You keep a carbon copy. The recipient takes the original to their bank and deposits it like a check.
