What pH pen do you use ?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by bryan oconner, Nov 2, 2020.

  1. You all know i hate these pens lol. People that know me know.
My partner ask me to look into getting with the times .
I had many pens before to be throw onto the floor stomped on with all my force with my size 13 boots !
Have these pens improved in the last 3 years ?
Or are you all using that solution to check the ph pen and reset it .
Dip that damn pen in a ph solution to check to see if its reading correctly . BLAAA.
Then use it again then throw it in a rage ! lol
So what pen are you using ? They sell actual grow pens or pens for pool supplies .
I am kind of thinking of getting a pool fish tank ph pen . I think the quality may be higher ?
I had some bad luck in the past with pens . I do not forget something that pissed me off a few times .

im happy with the old school drops.
Want to watch a video of me driving over a ph pen ? might be coming soon

  2. I think I got something from Bluelab. But I'll be using a PH monitor/adjustment device so that may be irrelevant.

  3. I use a Bluelab Combo Meter. I will calibrate every month but other than that it’s been solid. I always make sure to wash it out after every use and put it back into the cap with some RO water in it. My readings are always the same so I haven’t had any issues yet.

  4. I bought this one, super easy to set up. But you need to let it set 24 hours in kci solution inside cap before calibrating. Super fast. I bought the other cheap one's but spend the extra money and get a good one. Here's pictures what to get extra with it.

  5. Blue lab are great meters. I do constant monitoring now with an apera probe with a cheap brain. Works great

  6. Thanks. i am not getting one .
Me fussing with things with solutions Were going to pass on the pens .
Nothing changed in the last 3 years . I thought they would of had all the bad bugs out of them by now .
I know it may not sound like a lot to some of you but its just another project the be forgotten checking accuracy .
    Idk , Great advice
i do thank you . We shall continue the old school drops adding ph up or down where needed .

  7. I would have it no other way . Drops just not accurate enough for me.. but that’s just me. Plus I’m color blind always questioning what I’m seeing . 5yrs and going strong with my gauges . So much easier . 692E50AC-945B-4A7F-9579-045B5982C955.jpeg

  9. I have a cheap-ass vivosun PH meter that came as part of the combo. PH meter, ppm meter,PH solution test kit.
After 9 months of use it remains the same as the PH solution kit. I've never set it, never used the solution packets that came with it. I don't dry it properly after each use and basically treat it like shit. I PH my water/feeds every single time I water, but I only check the meter against the test kit about once a month. It has always verified the solution results. Color 6.5, meter reads 6.5. Color reads 7.8, meter reads 7.8, etc.Either I got a fluke great one, or vivosun has stepped up their game a bit.

  10. I have a Jellas similar to the same as the Vivosun quality. 2-3 years going strong.

I’ve been planning to spend money on a good one but my cheapy has been holding strong too. Good thing I just monitor PH with it :)

  11. All of the ph pens (including BlueLabs) I've purchased would start drifting after a couple of years. I settled on Apera PH 60. It's been consistent.

  12. Bluelab all the way. They sell the ph pen and ppm meter together at a decent price. I have been ripped off buying Bluelab on ebay. The ones on amazon come directly from Bluelab. Keep an eye on the checkmark, and recalibrate when it disappears. 30 days or more for the ph, a long long time between calibration for the ppm. Never reuse calibration fluid. The ph pens are not lifetime purchases and finally the coating wears away. Any contact with distilled water is a real pen wrecker..

  13. Bluelab has great meters , sadly I did not use mie for a while and it dried out and is dead. Had a cheap amazon one that right out of the box would never calibrate .... got sick of it all and switched to no till super soil and forgot all about checking ph or using bottled nutes

  14. We were bitchng here one night about ph. Everybody had a wives tale idea. I jokingly said, just add soil. But in the end, that is what I did. Not soil exactly but low ph sphagnum peat. Then I add vermiculite and gypsum and dolomite to bring it to 6.2. My tap is 8.0+. The jacks I use has a buffer. Better check my pen. It hasn't been used in a while.
