What pH meter do you use?

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by GrowerGemini, Aug 8, 2017.

  1. Was wondering what pH meter everyone else uses? I bought the Jellas one 3 months back and it has been horrible. The calibration is horrible and it always jumps up/down with no rhyme or reason. Was wondering if it was worth it to just buy a $100-200 self calibrating pen. I've just been using distilled water/pH down to control the pH for now but know I'll actually need to get an accurate reading if I want my grow to go well.

I'll post a picture of it below

  2. Also let it dry out so I might've messed up the bulb.

  3. Any one with a bunch of five star reviews really, I've ordered a bunch of cheap ones like above and they all work great, had the same reading.

  4. Which one are you using right now?

  5. Blue labs. Don't trust a self calibrating meter. Get the pH 4 and 7 calibration solutions and the KCL storage solutions. Calibrate the meter monthly and learn the do's and dont's abot pH meters and it'll stay perfectly accurate for a very long time.

Never, ever leave the probe sitting in water. That's a quick way to permanently pooch it.

  6. I have the yellow one you posted and another grey one, along with a couple probs, I've used the more expensive pens and they don't show different reading from my cheaper ones. I'll check for the link if I still have it on amazon.

  7. Hanna Piccolo. It's slow to read, but it almost never needs calibration and works very well. Plus I got it for $30 on eBay, so score.

  8. I have a Bluelab Guardian and I've had it for about 4 years with no issues. Plus it comes with a 5 year warranty. It's a quality product. You get what you pay for. Sometimes it hurts to spend a lot but you won't have to buy another for a very long time.

  9. No calibration required. Always accurate. No 7.0 and 4.0 calibration solutions. No storage or cleaning solutions.

  10. I'm sorry, but I'll always take a digital with a firm number over a "guess the exact shade for accuracy."

  11. I understand what your saying but I've never found that perfect pH accuracy is necessary - in fact I believe that varying the pH a bit with your feedings makes sure that all of the elements are always available to the plant. As long as my nutrient solution is yellow I'm good to go. I did find that the colors on the bottle were off a bit so I use this for color reference - plus it gives me the .5 colors as well to get closer yet. Different strokes. :):)
