Definitely overkill. Bringing a ninja with you is more than enough, no need for knives. Even a non ninja would do.

Yeah there are a lot of threads in GC title as "Deal went wrong" "OMG, just got ripped off" or "holy shit, got buttraped by another man" so that's not an over kill.

Another one you should do is to do it in some sort of open place like a park, parking lot, and not in their house, your car, or an alley. That way you scream and aroused peoples attention if you get to stared down a barrel of a gun.

 

Pretty sure if you're going to get robbed your going to be looking at a glock and your friend will shit all his martial art skills right there and then. You wont win against criminals, just bring the cash and nothing else, if he robs you give him what you have and report him for drug dealing on crime stoppers
