What kind of ferts?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Pothead Pete, Jul 4, 2003.

  1. Pothead Pete here . Just wondering about your guys opinion on fertilizers. For indoor soiless mix . What do you reccomend for veggie growth, and what do use use for the flowering cycle? I use 10 52 10 for vegging and 15 30 15 for flowering. Can this be improved on. I have heard all sorts of different things.Any good brand names availiable in Canada? all help much appreciated!!!!!!

  2. A ratio of 2.5:1:1 for veg and 1.5:2.5:1 for flower.

Low numbers for a quick dose of energy and high numbers for a longer term uptake.

    i.e.

    5:2:2 is a snickers

    40:16:16 is a steak meal

    (great analogy h-man).

  3. HIGH All, excellent way of putting it Sureshot....what I use in my Bubblers is Nutrilife's "A" 10-0-0 "B" 0-26-17 "C" 3-9-27 and Pure Blend grow 1.0-0.5-1.0 and Bloom 0.5-0.5-1.0 (haven't used it for two crops) and when growing seeders in a soilless mix I use Fox Farms Grow Big 3-2-6 Big Bloom 0.0.1-0.3-0.7.

  4. It says on the label to use the 10 52 10 during transplant and vegitative growth. Are you guys telling me to use this throughout the flowering cycle? What about the 15 30 15? It says on the label for all flowering plants. Are you guys telling me to use the veggie food throughout flowering and not to use the 15 30 15? All comments appreciated!

  5. I like the 15/30/15 for flowering out of the two you have there.

The other could be used for flowring too.

Both need added Nitrogen for them to be optimum for veg growth.

But by the same essense if you add N you're talking a BIG meal if you go on my ratios, a full on eat all you like for a dollar. We like phat plants but not lazy plants.

  6. I still haven't gotten an answer. What is the best way to fert. your plants for both cycles?

  7. That's the answer.

    2.5:1:1 for veg

    1.5:2.5:1 for flower

Any numbers that are approx this ratio are fine.

  8. So for vegging I am to use a 25 10 10, and for flowering a 15 25 10. Is this correct?

  9. for veg I recommend 10-10-10

For flowering, I go for something more along the lines of 10-60-10, give or take a few numbs if need be.

  10. I like those numbers Pete.

Stylez, if we're talking particles per metre the reason I would choose not to use a number as high as 60 in my ratio is the possibility of the plants quick absorption of the phospherous will block absorption of the other nutrients that the plants need. Despite the flowering process requiring MORE P the plant still needs its N and K.

    *lol*

[EDIT - Pete, read up on what the levels of NPK on a packet of fert actually means... there is a good post in the growfaq at Overgrow (which even a science dumbass like me sort of understood) explain it, I'm too wrecked to find a link now, but i promise you it's there!!]

  11. Diluted abit ofc.

and remember I said give or take :p

I wouldnt recommend under 40 P for flowering, 25 just seems a bit low to me.

  12. Also one more thing , Whats the big deal with worm castings and bat guano? Are they really worth it? How Much bigger will my buds be?

  13. Pete/

Organic sources of nutrients. Worm casings in your soil mix will give negligable extra source of nutrients plus micro nutes not always in chemical fertilisers AS WELL as more of the bacteria that turn Ammonia into Nitrate (the easiest absorbed form of Nitrogen).

You can get bat and bird guano in high N or P and again it is an organic version of these nutrients and has all the associated benefits.

    Stylez/

    That's fair.

I know many people who use ferts with ratings such as yours. I take a gentler approach! :)

The thing with a 60 is that it's misleading too, I assume you are talking ppm but if not that 60 (going by the shop bought label) could be in actual fact be as low as 24ppm (60*0.4) . If we convert your whole product to ppm your ratio would be more like 10-24-8 (10*0.8).

Which would be one I would mix.

    :D

  14. The nitrogen level is highest. I use this as a daily feed. then once every 2 weeks I hit it with the 15 30 15, does this sound OK?

  15. hmm, I've heared that Miracle grow has too much salts in it, which can clog and such.

Its up to you, but I wouldnt go with miracle grow, I'd just dilute the 15 30 15, and fert with that.

  16. The miracle gro is a liquid, Can this cause a toxic level of salt buildup in my pots?

  17. dunno about toxic, unhealthy though.

I'll ask sid about it when he gets on to make sure.
