I found them a couple of days ago and I have tried to look online to see what kind they are but I cant see them well enough to tell. they aren't on my plant, they seem to stay in the soil. every time I water they end up in the runoff water and start to crawl around on the soil after the water has sunk in. I put a video on youtube so everyone can see what they kind of look like and see how they act. If you know what they are please let me know so I can know what actions I need to take if any. Sounds like fungus gnats.compare to this to be sure. They need very moist soil to reproduce.Let your soil dry out, you are likely over watering. http://www.redwormcomposting.com/images/fungus-gnat-nematodes.jpg [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iN_Y3vVx5Y&feature=related[/ame]
I'm almost sure thats not it. no worm like things or anything and that larvae looked bigger then they are.
I can't view the videos for some reason. But what you're describing sounds like bugs that eat rotten roots. I forget what they're called. If that's what they are, they won't injure the healthy parts of the plant, but it could be a sign that you're over watering and have some root rot.
Nevermind what I said. I saw the video. They're not what I thought. I don't know what they are. Sorry.
they look like mealy bugs they will eat the roots and cause the plant to die because the plant will starve they will not able soak up water and nutes i used malathion to kill them when i had them
All of the pests mentioned have wings in adulthood. White flies, thrips, fungus gnats, mealybugs.I never had mealy bugs, the discription matches what you describe, without a closeup picture we can't do more than throw darts, you have to search pics to see if one matches, google each like this mealy bugs/ pics thrips/ pics........ and so on. when you got that done let us know.
Mealy bugs were the first pest I ever encountered. These aren't mealy bugs. Mealy bugs look like tiny pieces of cotton, and they feed on fleshy parts of the plant, often at the nodes. They don't really move, or at least you can't see them moving. They're soft and mushy and easy to remove, but it's hard to get rid of them. About all I can do for you is rule out mealy bugs.
it looks like the same bugs I had or have they come up when you water I haven't seen them in my runoff like yours which would tell me your infestation is worse then what I had. I thought they were fungus gnats but still not sure. I treated them with bt. mosquito dunks I break up the dunks and sprinkle it on the soil and then water the bugs eat it and it turns to crystal inthere stomach they stop eating and die I applied every watering for a month and they dissappeared until I got a new strain from buddy and now there back. hope this helps out oh yea and bt is biological and safe for humans. later keep me posted
They could be silverfish, however I do not know how to rid them. I've heard you can try water with a little bit of soap in it, soap isnt harmful to plants so I've heard.
soap in little doses it is ok but some soaps like blue dawn i used about 3 tbs in 2 gallons of water and spayed my strawberry cough and it just about killed her but i did not adjust ph before spraying
