I took my plants out of the grow box to take pics. I'm definitely getting enough ventilation. I know the pots are a little small, but I'm still surprised at that way they look. Could it be the size of the pot? I'm using just regular soil (Miracle Gro organic choices potting mix) and Ultra Green 10-10-10 all purpose plant food. I don't think I'm overwatering. Any suggestions??
Miracle grow is a bad choice to be honest, it contains enough nutes for about 3-4 weeks with only ph stable water. Do you have any perilite or anything mixed in your soil if not your more than likely over watering bc MG holds on to water longer than most. and over loading on nutes which is causing nute burn. without seeing a picture its really hard to tell but that is what it sounds like.
I have used the MG Organic Choice as well, with positive results. The Organic MG has no nutes, I think. Doesn't look like the new pics are showin up either.
Get those pics up, and tell us: How are you watering? (How much, how often) How are you feeding? (How much, how often) What's your pH? What are your temps? What's in your soil mix (or is it just MG Organic right out of the bag)?
I was finally able to get the pictures up (below). I am only using MG in the pots, I water approximately every 2-3 days w/approximately a 1/2 to 1 cup of water (depending on how dry the soil feels on top). I don't know the PH of my soil, I can't afford a PH meter at the moment. I figure it must be ok, since the plants got to this point. I'm not sure the humidity, but judging by the way the top of the soil dries out in a day I'd say it's not too humid. The temperature is around 75 degrees. I am using Lilly Miller Ultra Green 10-10-10 "All Purpose Plant Food". I used a 1 tablespoon about a month ago and just put another tablespoon 2 days ago (for two of the three plants, using one as a control). I never had a regular watering cycle, so I feel as though I'm always "catching up" so to speak, where I never can water the right way i.e. less frequently and more quantity. Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate. BTW, more leaves are curling upwards this morning, especially on the bottom. More leaves are sagging too. I didn't water anymore. I haven't water in 2.5 days and the soil still feels moist.
1/2 to 1 cup of water in how big of a pot? Do you not water until you get a significant amount of runoff from the drainage holes. What is the dosage recommendations on the fertilizer you're using? There looks to be a number of 'issues' with your plant that may stem from a ph issue which is locking out nutes. I'd suggest you flush your plants with distilled water - and by flushing I mean gradually, say over 5 minutes or so, pour 3 times as much water into each plant as the pot holds. Then let's see what happens. Good luck. BTW, you will need something to test your ph sooner rather than later. PH color test strips or solution kits are cheap and much better than nothing.
The pots are 1/2 gallon pots. I wasn't watering until I got significant runoff from the drainage holes until this past week. I was afraid of keeping the soil constantly wet. Should I get a moisture meter too? If so, what should the reading on that be? Is it critical that I upgrade to a bigger pot? How do you measure what 3X as much as the pot can hold is? Is it as soon as I get significant run off and multiply the quantity I poured by 3? I will get a PH test kit, so I can tell the PH of the water. Do I measure the PH from the tap or the runoff or both? I really appreciate the help!
The recommended dosage of nutrients is one tablespoon for a single vegetable plant, individual perennial, herb, and for planting containers. It also says the food can be applied at planting time and every six weeks throughout the growing season. I had waited almost 5 weeks and there was no sign of the pellets anymore, so I added some more. Could this be over fert?
Also, the one plant looks like it is in good shape. The lower leaves are green and it is a BIT sagging. However, it has a nice full green color. It looks like that plant IS getting proper nutrients but suffering somewhere else? What explains this common problem between the two plants (the sagging), but this plant doesn't have the browning/burns and curling the other one has?
Get a pH meter immediately, that is my #1 suspicion. In the meantime don't feed. BTW one tablespoon of fert for 1/2 to 1 cup of water is very strong. The instructions on the fert probably are one tablespoon per gallon.
I am guessing that is a direct result of ph unstability, underwatering, over fertilizing, and the pot being to small i would suggest atleast a 3 gallon pot for those to give the roots room to grow. my plants did the same thing(without the yellowing) when my ph was WAY to high and i was over watering and over ferting. but i would suggest replanting with perilite in the soil its very cheap and goes a long way if you can not get any better soil, also a good thing to remember is "feed, water, water" use the nutes at 1/4 strength and see what happens
that's time release fert that is highly unreliable. I suggest getting a water soluble fert. Not only are you using something that doenst uniformly nute the plant but given it's instructions you can only use it 2-3 times during your entire grow.
