What is the job of a Police Officer?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Cereon, Feb 7, 2014.

  1. there definitely are cops who do those things, but the majority don't

  2. There are many fine books written on this subject monk. As a educator you should study up on the free market bro. You need it

  3. I would disagree. The way I see it is the majority are power hungry assholes and swine. Maybe a few here and there are good guys but I will stay suspicious of them all for my own safety. I'm afraid at just the sight of a cop car. If I see the police coming I get the fuck out of dodge even if I'm not breaking any laws. I don't trust cops and I don't need or want their brand of help. Hell, they aren't even legally obligated to help or protect, only to arrest and imprison.

@Mr.Raider - You can't logically expect me to respond to that book length post.  Simplify that and put it in your own words brother.

I'm no economist, but I understand the free market and economics just fine, thanks.

  5.
This sounds more like a victim of sensationalist media, rather then police brutality.

  6. No, just my personal experiences with cops and from all the verifiable evidence of police brutality and abuse of power.

  7. But it's hard :)

  8. It is unfortunate but until people stop being "sheeple" they will need to be hearded around. Also I don't see people agreeing 100% on anything so unless you go by majority how will a community even decide on what privatized force to use? Boycotting works only if people do it, for instance most people know Iphones/electronics in general are made by underage/payed workers in basically concentration camps. Does that stop anyone from buying said products? The answer your looking for is NO.

Lets just go back to the wild west. Don't f*ck with me I won't f*ck with you.

  9.

You know all the cops there are?

  10.

By the time people get one law to change, you have hundreds more piled on within the same time frame. Look at Marijuana, how many laws have been created over the decades of trying to get this plant decriminalized? I'm afraid to even find out.

So yeah, changing the laws isnt the best solution.

  11. obviously not, but If the majority of police officers were harassing people and violating rights, we would hear about it a lot more than we currently do. The police do their job more or less correctly all the time. Usually, the only time we hear about them is when they do something wrong.

  12. To oppress us and protect the elite.

I hear quite a few stories... daily. It's more than there should be.

You have to look for these things, you know.

I also don't buy the whole "just following orders" cop out.

  14. So what might your solution be? Overthrow the gov? Good luck with that... If you don't like the way things are you must try to change them. The only way i know of right now without being imprisoned is changing laws

  15. I believe the police would be a lot less oppressive if witnesses of said abuses would put down their phones and help. It is not illegal but people are afraid to do it.

Did you ask me a question and then assume the answer? Lol. But I am trying to change the the way things are, by informing people that trying to change laws (this has been happening for centuries) doesn't work. Clearly.

Overthrow? No, Outgrow. Similar to outgrowing your parents. People have been trying to change them for decades, its futile and government continues to grow. You have an entire party dedicated to shrinking it. I've yet to see any government anywhere shrink willingly (not because of failure)

You cannot overthrow a government if people still hold on to the idea of it, it'll just replace it with another. The smallest government known to man turned into the most imperialistic monster that imprisons way too much of its population.

Similar to slavery, you cannot overthrow farmer smiths plantation and free the slaves if there are still people who believe its okay to own them, they'll get snatched up. You have to make them realize the immoral nature of a flawed system. It is quite difficult.

  17. No government then?

I'm down with some wild west.
