What is the IR Square for?

    I know it's found on the Army's (US) ACUs but what is the purpose? Is it basically just a reflective patch that illuminates when hit with an IR light source? What is the purpose, to designate friendlies when using night vision?

    Yes exactly, its to ID friendlies on the ground. Helpful when an Apache is strobing your zone and hodgies dont wear them.
