I’ve already tried to germinate some seeds and nothing has happened. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you
The best way is the way that works for you. I can't remember the last time a seed didn't germinate. No soaking, no paper towels, no extra handling.......no brainer.
The method I've found to be most reliable for me is the Paper Towel method. Works every time. I don't soak them in a glass of water first. I don't plant them directly in soil and water them in. I just put them into a wet paper towel and wait till I see a taproot.
I used to do the paper towel method, now I've started planting them in moist soil and have had perfect germination. I've had issues damaging tap roots putting already popped seeds in soil.
distilled water and h2o2. That way, if it doesn't germinate, you haven't messed anything up. I direct sow on Friday before sunset. Then I cover with a coffee can, and don't even look at it till Monday. If it hasn't germinated by Friday I sow another one in the same place. Once I had two germinate side by side, so ya never know.
I also like paper towel . And the gummy bear i had a few hours ago keeps going and going damn these things are powerful !!!!!!!!!!!! GONE . oK QUOTE ME. ( paper towels. wet 100 % . ((((((((((((((((((lightly ring it out)))))))))))))))))) so its not soaked Put seeds on paper towel fold into 4 . Not tight a bit loose. put in sealed baggy with air in the baggy ) If the seed will hatch good seed it will be a 100 % rate . Do NOT SOAK SEEDS FOR 24 HOURS . iT does more harm then good. Seeds need o2 . Your cutting all the o2 off . I do not care if a grower swears it works . Its not correct.. Google it . Look into the science part of soaking seeds and you will learn what im telling you . I swear its best to slam a 40 ouncer directly out of the freezer before you start drinking the day to stay hydrated. I think i could be incorrect but it always works for me . Ow seeds need to be over 60f and under 85. Best results 70 to 75
i simplified things lately and it seems to work well. I grow in soil though. I used the paper towel method for years. It does work well but this technique below has worked just as well. Soak seeds for about 16 hours max--like Bryan Oconner said--dont over do it on the soak. place seed in soil 1/2 inch deep and cover with soil. place a clear plastic drinking glass inverted over seed bed. I twist it a little so the rim is securely tight around the rim with the soil. I want to trap moisture under the glass. I wet the soil before I plant, then every day I lift plastic glass and use a water sprayer to mist the soil under the glass and spray the inside of the glass as well. Keep soil warm--about 80 to 85 degrees F. Usually in 3 days I see seedlings. this way I dont accidentally break the tap root when planting. The less I mess with stuff the better. This plastic drinking glass acts like a small humidor for your seedling.
