Hash is a concentration of the glandular trichomes (or 'crystals') of the cannabis plant, without the plant matter. Well, it's supposed to be without plant matter, but crappy hash can have bits of green in it. It's usually a solid substance, kinda like kief, or an oil.

You can smoke it any number of ways, including a joint. OSG has a really nice tek on how to make some fine oil enhanced joints right here.

I personally like to smoke a few drops of oil on top of a bowl of green :)

You should note that when smoking it from a bowl, you don't 'burn' the oil, you have to melt it. Hold the lighter a little ways away and suck the heat through it, instead of sucking the flame through it (like you do with weed).
