what happened in the bible before they changed it?

Discussion in 'Religion, Beliefs and Spirituality' started by Digit, Sep 1, 2006.

  1. lets avoid the little details that will inevitably cause unecessary unhelpful strife, i'm just interested in the big important factors, the concepts, the philosophical cornerstones etc.

i've come across a few over the few years i've actively been looking into the history of the bible, one of the most startling pieces was that originally it said "gods" not "god" when talking of creator. and there are many other language pieces that make for startling and unavoidable changes in meaning when translating.

now this is quite uncharacteristic of me to make a bible thread, but i've had enough, this is the preverbial straw breaking a camels back, when i've seen one discussion/debate/argument too many working under the asumption that its a god, in the creator sence, as a singular.

what happened in the bible before they changed it?
what other great shifts in meaning happend either through translation, or more direct, even inexcusable means?

ps, i never liked the word god anyways. @:p

  2. Uh, this is what we have been debating about, and uh, we will never really know....other than the fact the Bible is clearly a human edited work...

  3. my computer randomly shut down when i typed this sweet anwser out. it made me feel creepied.

anyways the bible is from egypt, ra is the main god. there are also lesser gods. so they would say gods to encompass them all. also rome got their gods zeus and whatnot from egypt.

it just took a few years to change it to one god.

it was originally written in sanskrit, i believe. and sanskrit is a much more spiritually encompassing language than english. some scholars have said the sanskrit version means something completely different, which isnt supprising.

in egypt there was only a few people who could talk to god. some rulers even said there was only one person that could.

  4. is ra not also the "sun god"? does that mean just our local sun, or all stars?
hardly seems all encompassing of all that is if it is indeed just a local thing.

wasnt some of it also writen in aramaic?

yeah, sanskrit really is a very impressive language. the concepts conveyed in single words... it shows how cripple the english language can seem.

  5. Good topic, dig...well it seems there's a ton of stuff that either was left out or changed throughout history, very very interesting stuff...kind of hard to find information though. This is exactly y the history channel is so great, i bet it has a bunch of stuff about this...

  6. lol the history channel is where i get lots of info. just gotta piece it together from all the shows.

there was a show one time where they were talking about several different books left out of the bible. one of them is equilevant to revelations, where it talks about the end times. theres something like 10-20 books left out.

when was the new testemate first published?

does anyone know any thing about the dead sea scrolls? im curious what they are all about.

im prety sure ra is the sun god, either that or a space man. some of the bible could have definately been written in aramaic, i mean the thing was written over 400 years or so. and for this reason alot of the bible is discredited because most of the thing was written generations after jesus dies.

theres lots of stories in the old testemate that are about nations taking over other nations, exodus for instance the jews get their own land. so in propoganda terms if the bible says god wants you to have this land, then well its yours. and then 2000 years later they are still fighting over it. propoganda for moses the prophet? more like the cunning conqurer.

idk if i should even post, i know this is gonna get flamed. o well :p

  7. This may sound frustrated because I lost everything I typed so now I have to redo it and I'm pissed off about it.

    But here we go:

Digit, I don't mean to try and Hijack your thread, but there is a lot of things being said here that have no valid basis whatsoever.

Fist off, the word used to refer to God is the hebrew word "Elohim". This noun is plural, but the verb is singular, so it doesn't mean more than one.

Maitereya, you're saying that the Bible came out of egypt, then your saying that it was written over 400 years and some other things. (I wish I could remember what I typed before)
The Bible didn't come out of Egypt. I'm sorry, but that's the truth.

And it makes no sense that egyptian gods would free the Jews from the egyptians, and then follow them for the rest of the books of Moses, giving acounts of much different styles of worship than the egyptians had for their gods, and keeping it singular.

My first post was much better than this, but it's gone. And I'm sorry, but The Bible just isn't talking about egyptian gods or anything other than God.

  8. If anything was changed in the bible, it is probably how it started. I'd imagine it would have said, "Once upon a time..."

I would definitly recommend the book Lamb, The Gospel according to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore instead of the Bible, better story telling than any of the scribes in the bible

  9. Always remember kids, the bible is bullshit!

  10. Im not sure about the old testament but the new testament was made some 500 years after jesus was crucified by piecing together books from various people that knew jesus. Since many of these books said the same basic shit just worded differently the guy that made it chose the verses that best conveyed whatever message it was talking about. But because he did this he ended up with a clusterfuck of different languages and styles of writings. The best we can do today is to realize its not important exactly what the bible says but the overall message is. Just do what u think God wants you to do and hope its good enough.

  11. ok. the bible didnt come out of egypt. but the idea of 'god' did. im sure years and years of conditioning in egypt made moses and his followers believe in god. then they left and didnt want their former oppressors god, so they decide on a new god. then again only one person could talk to that god. moses, their new oppressor. welcome to heiarchy, welcome to politics, secret agendas and manipulation. welcome to god, your ruler and king.

basically egypt had such a strong impact on religion, its like the beatles having a strong impact on rock n roll. or elvis.

im curious where the egyptian culture got their idea of god?

  12. halucinogens, geography and aliens?

  13. LOL, ROFLMAO. . . . . . . .yeah, let me tell you how right you think you are, lol.

Good to see we have people who can go back in time just to come back to the present

    and Declare such a statement.

  14. ugh... i told myself i wouldnt get into these petty bible bullshit argument threads that are plauging these forums.

thanks for adding so much to the city with your intuitive reply, im sure it took years of learning and research to come up with that.

if someone has a history of god to falsify my statement i would like to see it. untill then my theory holds true.

  15. LOL. . . .yeah man. I read your post then went and did years worth of learning and

research just to come up with a one-liner.

I actually do have something that is a history of God to falsify your statement. It's

called the Bible! But see this is where the dilemma is. You don't believe the Bible

to be an accurate history of God. I do.

So what have we learned you might ask?? You theory is just that. A theory.

Just as mine is. But the difference between your theory and mine. . . . . .I have

more historical evidence behind mine than you do yours. :p

i told myself i wouldnt get into these petty bible bullshit argument threads that are plauging these forums.

????????????? Petty Bible Bullshity Argument/ just because someone doesn't believe what you believe this is how you classify

it? Plagueing these forums?? You mean the Spirituality and Philosophy forums? Well Duh!

  16. ...what an ignorant reply, shouse, my respect for you has just flew out the window

and yea, the history you proclaim to be behind you, is nothing more than a vicious cycle, a bunch of stories written by the winners of whatever situation that they were in to glorify their position. The bible is also the same, a bunch of stories written by man. You cannot prove it to be any more true than any other religion's doctrines. And just so you know, your religion is not the oldest religion, and just because it's lasted this long doesn't give it any more dignity to be considered right. If anything, it's one of the most manipulative religions ever existed and is why it has lasted this long. It instills the most fear in the heart of man to have them not belief...

I also find it funny that you have a picture of Jesus in your signature, with your forum name right beside his head..

  17. Well Vicious If all the respect you had for me flew out of the window based on a

comment that wasn't directed to you in any way, shape or form I can only summize

that you didn't have very much respect for me in the first place. Besides your

just siding with someone who holds more similar beliefs to yours.

You don't like my sig dude!? Well I like it. I'd also like to give a Big ShoutOut to

Blouw for makin it for me, this hits for you :bongin:

BTW- I just love how someone besides me can state something to be fact and

not get flamed. But as soon as the Christian says something he believes it's

something worth losing respect for?? But it's all good though, Def ain't gonna let it

hold me down, ya heard !? :D

  18. i'm not really siding with anyone, just surprised by the contempt you illustrated in your remarks against mait, acting as if you know it all.

The true dilemma here is, that you think one belief is better than one another, or a disbelief even if it is not theoretically true or not. One word, EGO. I thought you were a little different from others who spill out their ego as if it were a disease, but i was very wrong. And fyi, I'm not the one who started the flaming.

edit- maybe you should regard the quote in your signature in a better fashion. and for the picture, well, good to know that you like to show off your rebellion against the commandments that your religion holds so dear in it's beliefs.

  19. ok im talking about the history of god. where god came from, like in actual history. see the bible imo seems like unreal history. so i discredit the historical significance of the bible. adam and eve cmon, for real people?

and shouse, you think the bible has more real historical evidence than egypt and other hard evidence? this isnt even about belief its about actual things and actual history. like the civil war, we have artifacts and tons of books written about it. egypt we have quite a bit of artifacts so i assume we can somehow track down where the idea of 'god' came from.

yes spirituality and philosophy, not religion and dogma forum.

i post on other forums also, actually because of this reason i go to other forums. but here the catholic community seems to be aggressive and not understand the message of the bible. the bible isnt important, its the message hidden between the lines thats important. im not christian and i still read the bible, its poetic and at times beautiful and i understand what its saying.

    turn on your lovelight

  20. Holy shit that is funny. The Bible....:laughing: I'm crying....The Bible! And about your sig, too bad we really don't know anything about Jesus, or even if he really existed....you could have the picture of a raging butffucking child molester in your sig, but you don't know it because the Bible doesn't say so. Wow, that would be the greatest scam in the history of mankind, if Jesus was a child molesting buttfucker and some really creative authors made him seem like the ultimate in human compassion and healer of all illnesses......

    :laughing::laughing:
