What driver for 4x QB288 LM301Bs?

  1. Hey all!

I just received my four new 3000k lm30a1 QB288s yesterday. It just so happens today that there is a 15% off sitewide eBay coupon so I would like to try and get a driver today before the sale ends.

This setup will be going into a 4x4 tent and will be replacing a 600w HPS.

I was thinking about just running a 480 driver full blast or running two separate 240 drivers and built two separate fixtures for versatility if some plants are taller/shorter/etc.

My other thought was using a 600 driver and get one that's dimmable. That way I'm closer or above the equivelancy of a 1000w HPS and it's more of an upgrade instead of just effienecy. I also wondered if this would be overkill for a 4x4, but if it's dimmable I could turn it down and be futureproofed for either a 5x5 or sealing and turning my entire room into a bloom room.

What do you guys think? Also what model should I be after? I understand some of the differences like one model is dimmable with a pentometer the other is through the screws on the driver itself. Some people recommend totally different model numbers for what are virtually the same setup. I know it also depends on if wiring in series or parallel which I'm kind of lost on too.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  2. Get the 600

  3. This is what the seller (Atreum Lighting) recommends:

Recommended drivers for this board are:

    1-board configuration: Meanwell HLG-120H-54A

    2-board configuration: Meanwell HLG-240H-54A

    3-board configuration: Meanwell HLG-320H-54A

    4-board configuration: Meanwell HLG-480H-54A

  4. They are conservative in their ratings. Get an A series 600 watt driver and it can be dimmed. I’m running 700 watts of qbs in my 4x4. Trust me, your gonna want the power

  5. Which one are you using in particular?

  6. I don’t have 288’s. I have qb96elite and qb120’s

HLG recommends HLG-600H-54a. If you scroll down you’ll see driver recommendations

  7. I ended up finding a great deal on two HLG-240-48A drivers for $85 shipped. That should put me at about 520W total.

  8. Incorrect voltage range. You want the 54a's. 240h's will work but you'll be a little low on power/intensity. That's why they make the 600h fixture.

  9. These are LM301Bs. They use less voltage than the LM561Cs.

Found multiple posts on LED gardener saying 48A is good for 301B boards but 54A is needed for 561C boards.

I got two brand new drivers for $85 shipped total. a 600w driver was going to run me $200-ish and take weeks to get here from Taiwan. These will push about 260w max each. That should be plenty for a 4x4. I could have gotten a 480 but again twice as much money and this way I have versatility with two lights and if one dies for whatever reason I still have another one working.

  10. Maybe but if you buy a driver with the voltage in the model number it will have a voltage dimmer. I'd rather have the headroom on the voltage and dim it down then not have enough for max current. If you look at flux bin efficiency charts the voltage requirement goes up as current input goes up.

  11. Output on the 54a 240h is 4.45 amps. Split between two boards that's 2225mA per board.
    Flux Characteristics with QB 288 V2 3000K, S6 Bin at 55C

VDC Current (mA) Watts at Board Lm/W at Board (55C) μmoles/joule at Board (55C)
    45.72 500 22.86 206 3.00
    46.98 1050 49.33 196.10 2.85
    47.70 1400 66.78 190.50 2.77
    48.96 2100 102.82 180.77 2.63
    49.50 2400 118.80 177.50 2.58
    49.86 2800 139.60 173.80 2.53

2100mA requires almost 49 volts. 2225 is going to require about 49.25volts.

  12. Output on the 48a 240h is 2500mA per board. Nice driver actually if it works. Should need close to 50 volts at 2500mA but the HLG drivers are known for pushing a little past the rating.
