What does my pet really understand about our relationship?

  1. I could use a zoologist here haha

Just pondering what our pet cats, dogs, horses etc. really know about our relationship? We literally OWN them as a pet, do they understand that they're practically captive? Some animals run away, what causes that? Do they understand that they could be 'wild' or do they think all of their species live with a human master?

Or do they not have the intelligence to even think about any of this?

    cheers :)

  2. I've often wondered "what if my dogs could talk?" Then I remember what I have done in front of them & thank God they can't!Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum

  3. I actually wondered if my dog knew she was actually a dog.

In my opinion they look at us as their food source, so naturally they love us. But their is a bastard cat who bites me for no reason.Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum

  6. Well our cat definitely likes me, won't fuckin leave me alone sometimes when i'm trying to do something like load a bowl/use the computer, just rubs up against me wanting attention.

I wouldn't say they even contemplate concepts such as "free" and "captive". I'd say they're more concerned with the free food delivered on time every day, a comfortable spot to sleep, and in the case of dogs, a nice owner to hang out with.

  7. Hmm...well my cats are not stupid, but I'm really not sure how smart they are. Sometimes it feels like they are trying to talk to me haha. I'm really not sure.
