What do you want to do with your life?

  1. I think I want to be a cop, no shit. But of course I wouldn't bust people with weed, I'd look the other way. But I think about it, and I woulod sleep well at night knowing that I am an enforcer of justice(ideally and mostly). To be able to seperate an abusive boyfriend from his spouse and hall him to jail, to get a sex offender off of the street. You know, to get people that really got a thing or two coming their way. Currently, I am going to enlist in the Army, maybe become a police officer in there.

So how about you grasscity? What are you? Or what do you want to be?

  2. I want to get my masters and then travel around the world being a teacher. Possibly Jamaica because they speak English and then I could live with the Rastas during the summer.

  3. Right now I'm working in biomedical devices (I'm going into senior year for computer engineering) which is alright, but once I'm out of college my goal is to work for one of the big defense contractors like Raytheon or BAE, or for someone like NVIDIA/ATI or Intel/AMD....or Microsoft...or Google.

I have a cousin high up in Microsoft so that ones probably the most likely of those...

  4. Im trying to become a firefighter. I also want to explore many business ventures.

  5. Much respect to you bro. I don't think I'd be down to fight fires, too hot lol.

  6. I landed my dream job almost exactly a year ago. I travel the world leading photography workshops and giving lectures on travel photography to other travelers.

For the past 10 years or so I've worked as a professional photographer. I started off doing family portraits, but ended up doing travel and commercial photography. I loved it, but working for myself was hard, and when the economy went south, business slowed down.

That's when I found the company that I work for now. We design educational international tours all over the world. Part of my job is leading tour groups and showing people how to take better travel photos. In the past year I've been to Greece, Turkey, Syria, Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, and a bunch of islands in the Caribbean.

Not every job is perfect (work is work, after all). I have a family, so I can't spend my time on the road 24/7. I travel 3-4 times per year, and the rest of my time is spent in the office working on developing our tours.

  7. I want to be able to develop a new class of antidepressants and antipsychotics. 3 more months and I'll have the credentials to do so

  8. I want to be a doctor. Dream job would be a team doctor for a professional sports team, but I'd be very happy doing almost any medical specialties.

@Mojo Hand: there's tons of oppurtunities to teach in Jamaica, even without a college degree. A friend of mine spent two years teaching down there when he was 17-18.

@Lukas: do you already have an idea at what type of molecule you think would be best?

Also, 2000th post!...time to start doing someting productive.

  9. Yes. The terpenoids. Particularly diterpenoids like those found in salvinorin-A, the active ingredient in salvia divinorum.

I think there is a lot of promise with the kappa opioid receptor agonists, of which salvia divinorum and ibogaine are the most well known.

  10. i don't want to work. i may work in a small place and get some money for a plane ticket to socotra island, and just live the rest of my life there. i'm the type of person who loves outdoors. i prefer no money to money. i am not materialistic, i just want to reach complete happiness, and nature makes me happy. not to sound like a hippy, either. i love playing video games, i'm a computer genius, i love snowboarding, soccer, etc.

  11. you're what 13 tops?

fiveonit over here just told us all that he wants to work retail/construction.

  12. Sounds pretty interesting. How does this type of research work? You fiddle around until you have a new terpenoid then give them to mice...and eventually clinical studies?

  13. How do you do these things with no money?

  14. Exactly. Which is unfortunate, because as I said, we already have 2 very potent diterpenoid compounds which grow in the wild, but because they cause psychedelic effects they're already ruled out.

Normally we could just remove a couple molecules here and there to negate the psychedelic effects, like they've done with LSD and psilocybin, but we actually have no clue why salvinorin-A and ibogaine cause one to trip. On paper, and with everything we know about the kappa-opioid receptor, they should not cause any sort of psychedelic effects whatsoever. But they do, and they're among the most potent psychedelics that nature provides.

I have a few theories as to why they cause psychedelic effects, but I'd be a fool to just give those away before I have a chance to publish them ;)

  15. I honestly wish I was able to answer this question. This question is the reason I have been stuck at a crossroad of life... for almost 3 years... there are plenty of options that I could probably do and be good at. I just don't know which one would make me happy...

  16. @InnerPeace

Consider the USAF also. Specifically Law Enforcement, not Security Specialist. You will get a lot of opportunities to learn the ropes and it nearly parallels the real world.

hmm, i guess you guys don't understand what i meant. i have a job, but i want to live on my own without the use of money. i want to hunt for food, and build my own hut somewhere. i want to break away from civilization. how'd you know i was 13?! (sarcasm)

  18. the forum is "What do you want to do with your life?" not "What do you do with your life?"

  19. I remember reading something about adding a boron (?) to LSD and the size of it causes it to not bind the serotonin so it can be used to treat cluster headaches without the psychedelic effects.

It's interesting that we don't even know how those drugs work...there is so much more to learn about our brains. And I understand that you don't want to post your ideas about, but I just LOLed thinking about some Japanese scientist browsing grasscity for the latest pharmacology breakthroughs.

  20.

I'm not worried about some other scientists, I'm worried about some of the other people who post here! We've got quite a few really smart people here!
