A government supposedly was formed to govern or manage its own people and keep order within its boarders. yt the idea of a democracy is that the people manage themselves, with the help of a representative or a speaker for those people. so basically, we have a populous, lets call this community "BOB". well BOB is divided into 3 sectors, 1, 2, and 3. each sector has a representative, Dan, Paul, and Tom. then there is John, who mediates the discusions between the 3 and makes sure they arent beating each other up when they argue, but John has no say in any of these discusions. Well lets say that there is a citizen of BOB who thinks there should be a new law made. well he talks to the rep. that governs over his sector and tells him the reasons why the law should be made. well then lets say Dan is the rep. Dan prepares a bill to be discussed at the next meeting and then the 3 give their opinons as to why the bill should or should not be made into a real law. Lets pretend like the bill is to make chewing bubble gum after 10 pm illegal. well what idealy should happen is that each of the 3 reps should take the information they know so far about the affects of this new law and ask their people if they would like this new law to be made. which entails, the representative going to different meetings in his sector and informing his people about it and getting more feedback from his citizens. then after a period of time the citizens would vote on whether they want it or not. then depending on the resulta of this vote each sector would make this a law or not. there should not really be any voting between these 3 men. it shouold be all about the people. so lets say we have secotrs 1 and 2 who agree that bubble gum should be illegal to chew after 10 pm but secotr 3 does not agree. well the thing is that there are more people who voted for yes than no and so therefore, yes the law should be made. its called majority rules. but like i said about there not being any reason why there should be any voting going on during these meeting between the men, why do we have the different political parties? republicans, democrats, independant. they are all formalities. the reason we have those is because the people of this country are lazy and dont vote. and they want some one else to vote for us. the representative. well then why do you complain about a law that seems unfair or that you think the representative didnt know all the ins or outs about the new law. well thats why we need to bbe educated about these things a head of time. thats why we need to have a better connection with our government. why dont we have more opportunities to vote on things? yes i grant you that we do vote for the proposition things every year. but thats mainly for the taxes and government funding to go to different causes. like her in arizona we have the light rail system that we voted to give funding to. but we never vote on things like whether or not it should have been made illegal to gamble at 18 or 21 like they did 3 years ago. that pissed me off cuz it was just before my 18th birthday when that happened. not that i could have voted anyways but i would have liked to know before i tried to buy a scratchers ticket. ok back to the gov't. when congress votes on laws they change them so many times before it actually passes. what they change are the by-laws of that law. which basically are the loopholes that people can get through to do something legally. like lets say i get busted for chewing bubble gum past 10 pm but then i get away with it because i was wearing a green shirt at the time. yeah a little out there but my point is that that is something so stupid that gives you a reason to actually do something legally. doing this is called regulating, or restricting. so in a long way connected, the government was created to restrict the way we do things. that sounds a lot like communism to me. im not saying that the government is full of communist people, all im getting at is that there is a lot of communist like activity going on. i understand that we voted for these representativesto vote on our laws without hving to bother us with them. but i also understand that there is a lot of unfair things that go on that get a certain person into office. and the only reason that a certain person recieved a vote from someone was because of the politcal affiliation. or maybe the citizen didnt like Greg's views more than Dan's. he didnt like Dan's either but he didnt like Greg's views more. or maybe it was that Dan's people paid the citizen to vote for him. or maybe Greg had a better stance on things but just didnt sell himself enough. what ever the case may be the wrong guy may have been voted in. what ever the case may be, with all these twists in the structure of our government it seems very unstable and not that it will be torn down easily, but its just not fair to the people who pay them to be in office. its just not right. I just wish that our founding fathers could come back here and see what our country has become. im sure they would be ashamed. my point is that we all need to have a more active role in our government if we really truely wih to change things. like all these protestors who say this isnt fair and bush sucks and what ever. well i agree i dont like our current president but there is nothing we can really do about it. because not enough people are willing to get off their asses and be americans. VOTE!!! but not cuz you dont like the other guy. if you dont like either of them then put MICKEY MOUSE in the other spot. (mickey mouse literally won one of the elections while the war in vietnam was going on).
First of all, that was the most painful thing to read ever...When you're working on your next post, put some spaces in between paragraphs (and use more than two paragraphs) So let's get into it Before this last election, I received a magazine-sized pamphlet that did list the things we were voting on, and the candidates' position. If that's not enough, there's the candidates' websites, televised debates and commercials. Having voters attend a town-hall style meeting would be unrealistic. How many millions of people are voting per state? And they've got the time and motivation to go this meeting? I think there's a reasonable and realistic amount of information to be found, and if you're one of the ones who would be so inclined to go to a meeting, you'll find the information on your own. Not sure what this means...can you draw a parallel to real life? Ashamed about what? If we could travel back to the time of the founding fathers, I'm sure we'd have plenty to be ashamed about. Government has always been the domain of rich, white, land-owning males. Not to mention there was slavery, much more disparity in the application of the Bill of Rights (i.e. most parts of the Bill of Rights did not apply on a state level), work was much harder before the Industrial Revolution, and there was far more racism towards immigrants then than there is now. Not to mention that our population in 1790 was roughly 4 million, in 2005 our population was 296 million. I'm assuming you meant they'd be ashamed about voter apathy, maybe the Patriot Act, the usual lineup...In any given historical period there are controversies. Abraham Lincoln suspended habeus corpus during the Civil War, but since it worked out favorably, no one paints him as a tyrant violating the Constitution. Even back when they were framing the Constitution, there was concern about the executive branch having too much power...so the more things change, the more they stay the same. I don't like Bush either, but after hearing about the guy they arrested in Illinois planning to "wage jihad on civilians" and blow up a mall three days before Christmas, I'm glad that there are measures in place to arrest these assholes. I'm against the Iraq War because it wasn't predicated on a real threat. I'd much rather focus on domestic issues like airplane security and immigration, those are the things that are going to make us safer.
i completely understand your idea..just your lack of patience .. i have the same problem..well maybe, mine is ADD
