What Did You Think of Obama's Speech on Libya?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by StayHighAllDay, Mar 29, 2011.

  1. I have to be honest, as a fierce opponent of Obama and his ideology...I'm going to give this a chance. This is only the beginning of Operation Odyssey Dawn so we shall see how successful it is.

  2. — Barack Obama 2002

  3. only the beginning?

I thought it was supposed to last a few days?

    didn't watch the speech though..

  4. I was actually surprised by the amount of mistakes made during the speech.

  5. Incase you haven't noticed..w/o his teleprompter he speaks gibberish.

Never saw a president talk so much and use so many words just to state a single idea.

Mumble jumble jibberish..blah blah blah. Another president with broken promises..what else is new.

  6. You could painfully notice each time he lost his place on the teleprompter.

  7. The speech was flat and un-enthusing sounding similar to the Bush doctrine. Obama? Well he just looked disinterested and weak.

  8. Did he use a teleprompter for this speech? Where the fuck is Chicken to make 10 threads about his use of the teleprompter or the mistakes made because he didn't use one.

  9. I thought i was listening to George Bush.

-This is coming from a socialist liberal hippy

  10. You are not alone.

Here is about all the "change" we've seen in the past few years...

  11. did Obama really say "this is only the beginning?"

    (didn't watch the speech)

  12. Obama stated that we won't have ground troops in Libya, but other nations most likely will and we will be in charge of the sky.

The whole name "Odyssey Dawn" throws me off... I thought the Odyssey was about Odysseus returning home, not starting up another war

  13. I found the speech to be filled with hyperbole, lies, inconsistencies, and hubris.

If anyone believes a word of that speech I have a nice bridge to sell you; because what you've just heard was Operation Iraqi Freedom 2.0

  14. The US uses a similar computerised system. It was reportedly created in 1975 after names selected randomly by commanders, such as Operation Killer during the Korean War and Vietnam's Operation Masher, sparked criticism.

It gives each command within the Defense Department a series of two-letter groupings they use to come up with names. The US Africa Command, in charge of the current operation, is allocated letters JF-JZ, NS-NZ and OA-OF, said military spokesman Eric Elliott

Basically the name doesn't mean anything.

  15. Bleh. the one thing that stuck out in my mind was where he said something to the effect of 'the US is not going to lead the operation in Libya, and hand it over to NATO'.

Well.. for those of you who don't know, the US funds something like 20-25% of NATO's functions. so even though the US is not 'in control' of the operation, money is still being drained to support the operation.

Other than that, it's just another speech talking about how well he made his own decisions, and how his advisers were key in making decisions, etc etc.

The only thing I saw in his speech was his ability to bend the meaning of "we're still funding the operation, but with a new name on it, a majority of you won't take a second glance".

  16. It was the same old same old. We are right in this case, preventing the slaughter of thousands of people.

The man gives a good speech, and I support the no fly zone in Libya, but why don't we just bomb Gaddafi, kill him and his sons and get it over with? Seriously, if the goal is to oust him, or see him dead, if it saves us tax dollars just assassinate the guy.

  17. airstrikes alone aren't getting the job done.. pretty soon those warhawks will be calling for boots

  18. That I will not support.

Air strikes can work, if the gloves are taken off.

I'm sure he is in an underground bunker most of the time, but he does make public appearances. Have someone in Tripoli waiting with a GPS locator button with eyes on target, and light his world up.

    Problem solved.

  19. They are discussing arming the rebels as well
