What did i do wrong?

Discussion in 'Cannabis & Weed Edibles: Cooking & Recipes' started by simbybuddy, Mar 15, 2010.

  1. Allright well i couldnt find the right section for this question. Allright so i picked up an ounc of some decent mids. I planned to make rice crispie treats but they arent as strong as i hoped. Heres how i made them i ground up the ounce then put the weed in with the butter 3 sticks. I put the pot in a bigger pot with water in the big pot surrounding the little pot now i cook this for 3 and a half hours at 160F to make sure i didnt evaporate the butter. I then strained it into a container and let it harden for like 10-15 minutes. After that i added the cannabutter to a big pot with marshmellow. To make the sauce for the rice crispie treats i melted that down and added everything and let them sit until cool. Something is deffinetly wrong they barely even get you stone and i dont know what i did wrong.

  2. There are multiple things which could have gone wrong:

    1. the weed was real shitty
    2. you didn't get your double boiler setup hot enough to force the THC to bond with the butter
    3. you are one of the people who doesn't get great effects from edibles

I think #2 is most likely what went wrong. When I make edibles I just put however much butter+weed into a pot and add a cup or 2 of water. The water has a lower evaporation point than butter, so it acts as a buffer against the butter burning or evaporating. It also allows the mixture to get hot enough to extract the THC.

That 160F you were reading also wasn't anywhere near hot enough to yield a good extraction. THC begins to burn off ~300F. I generally keep my cannabutter at a simmer around 245F for 3 hours.

  3. i made like a half o worth of cannamargarine. ate like half of it and got nothing.

even if it worked. i think that i still could get wayyyyy more out of it in my vape then eating it.

possibly a higher temperature. 160. man i think thats low.

also try to eat it on a empty stomach.

sorry man i know how you feel, cause i wasted like 100bucks worth of dank aswell. i smoked daily for a while when i tried this and the whole time i was really worried about it not working.

if i were to re do mine. i would prob do it at like 200-230 degrees, and keep it on for 5 hours+

  4. i told my friends we should have sued water and butter now were out mad money fuck
