I am disgusted that I can not enjoy marijuana without the risks of being arrested, fined, and labeled a criminal. Instead of escaping to a country that allows cultivation and recreational use, I would like remain in the United States and do something to fix this situation for all Kentuckians. Kentucky, though a producer of industrial hemp and home to a large black market of illegally grown marijuana has yet to come around on the issue of decriminalization and legalization. We have a dire problem with synthetic drugs, particularly methamphetamines, and I know marijuana would impede that trend which grows progressively worse with each year. So, what can one do? My monetary resources are limited and my network does not extend beyond the upper middle class. I am educated and decently articulate. I am a competent writer and speaker. Please offer me your recommendations and directions. Thanks in advance.
I am in the same situation in Florida. What I have found effective is writing to your state house and senate and federal legislators from all states offering a bit of education. I often request they review all the articles and videos at Activist Cat Home Page Sometimes it takes a while to hear back from them but the ones that do review the material certainly open their minds. Don't get frustated. They have all been fed and listening to the same old lies and do not know the truth. Once you present it to them the change of attitude is amazing. The site was built as a tool for such. No maijuana pictures, but tons of educational info. Keep your letters polite, state facts, not emotion. I also send additional letters, stay on a regular campaing. I find every 6 weeks to 2 months effective. You don't want them to just start skipping over your emails by sending them too often. I make one good letter, then copy/paste it to every legislator. An other tip I got from elsewhere, if you are not in their district, the emails are just trashed, never opened. Cheat a bit. Use the zipcode finder, put your city and zipcode as one in their district. That way it at least gets read. I keep a list of the city and zipcodes I use for each legislator. That way I can use the same address for each letter to each legislator. A small amount of organizing in the begining makes it so easy for the next time. Also sign every petition you find. Activist Cat Home Page is also loaded with petitions and links to petitions. Good Luck!
