“We” aren’t doing anything because I bum holiday meals from family. I did have a Turkey Breast that I had intended to cook on the smoker grill but I got high one morning and threw it in the oven. Ate it for days and gave the rest to cats. I know there are some good cooks hanging around here so what cha got?
A friend’s mom does a great dressing that I may attempt if I catch the spirit. I don’t cook much at all but enjoy trying every now and then.
Just christmas & easter day, but easter starts 2 days after christmas that's when they start selling the hotcross buns in the supermarket...
Only 2 at Thanksgiving so we do a Turkey Breast from The Honeybaked Ham co. with homemade sides. At Christmas I usually go all out and do Romanian Cabbage rolls and a nice Ham. Usually a Honeybaked ham, not sure if they are nation wide, but they are famous here in Northern Ohio.
When I have hosted a few people I went to a local home style place that has the entire spread for 6. That was plenty and not expensive given the cleaning up wasn’t bad.
We usually do a trifecta, wife does a turkey in one oven, I sear a small bone in rib roast on the grill and finish it in the other oven, as well as a couple of slabs of salmon on the grill, we have a couple of vegetarians, so I usually grill up some eggplant or portabello mushrooms too. Plus the usual sides, stuffing, potatoes, asparagus, green beans, corn, baked beans, breads. Dessert is usually several types of pie and ice cream. My wife has the crazy idea to try a baked alaska this year for dessert, and I fully look forward to her losing her shit trying to cook something so complex on thanksgiving day with kids and grandparents running wild. We typically seat about 12-14 adults and I loose track of the children, mostly because I avoid them by hanging in the shop with the other adult men drinking and pretending to do our part by "grilling" while we are out there drinking and smoking. I'm going to cut 2 autos in the few days so I can draft the menfolk into helping me trim while we are up there too, as I know at least an ounce will go up in smoke that afternoon between the men. Its fun, but I'm hoping one of my siblings adult children will step up and take over the holiday in a few more years (the wife and I took over about 8 years ago when my mother could no longer physically manage hosting due to her age, and my sisters got tired of taking off the whole week from work to stay with her and help her get prepared)
Herself cooks,,, usually turkey and ham… I hunt deer and bears,,, and snare all manner of critters; some years we’ll have a half dozen different wild meats on the table beside the turkey and ham… The bairns and Granddarlings have all grown and scattered now though,,, Thanksgiving is becoming much smaller,,, still we’ll have the ham and turkey,,, this year deer and snowshoe hare as well… Lots of times we’ll have highbush cranberry jelly too,,, depends on the bounty of the year…
My mom is travel nursing and out of state so I’m hosting the entire thing for the first time. Pretty excited. 2 Hams, Turkey, rib roast, collard greens, rice dressing, cornbread dressing, macaroni, potato salad, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes and Turkey gravy and something else I’m probably forgetting. Thankfully my middle sister is the baker of the family and she’s making all the sweets. German chocolate cake, sweet potato pies, cheesecake, and buttermilk pie. phew. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday
Romanian cabbage rolls have no tomato sauce and aren't red. It's cabbage rolls (ground pork, ground Cottage ham, sauteed onions and rice) layered between lots of sauerkraut, any extra ham, and smoked sausage(or kielbasa)slices. Add enough water to fluff the rice as it cooks and you're done. About an hour and a half. People eat as is, or top with sour cream (my fav) or ketchup. The Hungarian side of my family use sour cream. The hillbilly side of my family use ketchup. As strange as it sounds it actually is pretty good with ketchup. Some folks love the kraut and some avoid it at all costs. Same with the cabbage itself, some folks trash the wrapping cabbage, some eat it. Either way it's been a Holiday tradition as far back as I can remember.
Ooh that sounds really good. Ours has tomato sauce over the top but I’d try it with sour cream on the side, that’s probably super tasty.
I got some green crack and lemon haze. I’m going to put both strains in a blunt and take the family Black Friday shopping. I think this year sucks because no one opens at night. There is this one outside mall we go to. It’s pretty cool shopping in the middle of the night there and then the sun comes up. I hope it warms up by then o yea I’m the same way. Ima go to my brothers house and eat whatever they are making. Hopefully they cook it good Back in the day, we go to this church and help out and then eat free turkey. It’s humbling eating with other people who also can’t afford to make a thanks giving meal
