What Are The Proven Negtive Effects Of Cannabis?

Discussion in 'Cannabis Consumption Q&A & Tips' started by The Stud, Jun 7, 2014.

  1. Like the topic says, I am on this discussion site where this girl asked 'should I date a guy that smokes hash'
Of course the hating starts right away, all of these girls are telling her how bad it is, and that it causes psychosis, etc etc etc.
I figured you guys might know, and have proof ? What are the negatives about cannabis?

I'm almost embarassed.. I smoke it, and I don't know the negatives :p

  2. It definitely doesn't induce psychosis. That's some grade a horseshit fear mongering.

Bronchitis is a common side effect. Cures are drinking water and avoiding smoking for a day or so.

  3.
You seem like a bright young man, so are you saying there aren't really any negative effects except you may get bronchitis? (And of course paranoia)

  4. If you smoke joints you will get stinky yellow fingers where you are holding the joint, besides that most any other negatives are societally induced.

  5. I noticed my short term memory is pretty bad and my mental state seems cloudy but then again I have been smoking a decent bit over the past 8 months so there's that. Nothing that a long t break couldn't fix.

  6. Paranoia must be an age thing, I got it sometimes when I was a young smoker, but not when I have become an older one.

  7. hey paranoia is more from heavy long term use , aslong as someone doesnt abuse the hell the hell out it isnt really an issue

  8. There's always side effects to things. But it's hard to really tell, it's more of a personal thing. Paranoia can be a side effect, but that depends on the person, their current mindset, mood etc.

I had a friend who used to get paranoid and panic attacks from one hit, now she doesn't.

Bronchitis is just one of the more concerning issues with weed. Vaping eliminates that issue though.

  9. been smoking regularly for about 15 years now, and have experienced no physical side effects.

i'd say most "common" side effects are in the mind and depend on the person consuming the cannabis.

i'm sure my lungs don't appreciate the tar from smoking blunts and bowls, though :smoke:

  10. Expensive(location)
    Possible fines and/or imprisonment.

Hmm I think those are the only negatives

  11. Most (dare I say all) of the negative physical health effects from cannabis are from smoking it and not the cannabis itself.  Smoking anything is terrible for you.

As far as studies have shown cannabis does not cause mental illnesses but it can bring it out/amplify it if someone already has the illness.  This is why I always say that cannabis isn't for everyone and that people need to be responsible and determine for themselves whether weed is supplementing or harming their life/behavior.

It certainly has potential to be abused but the same can be said for something like chocolate.   Some people would rather get high and escape their reality than deal with life problems but this is more about responsibility and self control.

  12.
    care to explain?

    never heard of this..

  13. It is specifically false that long term use causes paranoia. The cannabinoids have already been proven to be a supremely rich source of natural antioxidant compounds, as outlined in patent 6630507. That research was done by the NIH originally and is the basis of why cannabis is now understood to greatly treat and protect against neuro degenerative diseases. It protects the mind excellently over the long term.

The paranoia is a short term side effect usually in beginner smokers. Or those rare cases where people are super sensitive to the effects and dose too heavily.

While those people are bickering over propaganda based falsehoods they're completely missing the big picture. The research i mentioned extends to oxidative stress (free radical damage). Which of course is implicated in most diseases and potentially premature aging. Taken responsibly and properly, cannabis is rapidly proving to be a powerful longevity tool.

Go to google search for "NORML.org introduction to the endocannabinoid system"

Read that and other docs in their library section.

Then you'll understand some of the bigger potentials here and give you the tools to detect the BS spouted by people who don't know what they're talking about.

The potentially negative effects are extremely few and far between. And most are harmless like making you want to sit outside and watch the sunset. It's not at all like the pharmaceutical drugs sold to our people by the millions.

I have personally only ever seen paranoia in long term daily users , Maybe its just a coincidence but when you see stoner friends becoming super edgy its seems logical to blame the cannabis.
I myself notice a n onset of sober paranoia, anxiety, irratability when smoking much more frequently over the months
    not severe at all though

  15. really? have you ever smoked daily for while and stopped to find yourself  a bit 'shook up' , your emotions a bit confused, doesnt last more than a week or 2 if you ride it out sober but its definitely the cannabis causing it,, and i imagine that it would probably be worse if the person had been smoking for years daily

  16. That's called withdrawals lol. Your bodies natural cannabinoids are beginning to produce again, so you will feel your emotions fluctuating. Along with some other withdrawal symptoms that people might experience like insomnia or lack of appetite.

  17. Short term memory, obviously all the crap from smoke inhalation, munchies. that's about it

  18. oh i see,, i thought cannabis had no withdrawals. but wouldnt you say that withdrawals are a negative side effect?

  19. I noticed that my pantry is sometimes emptier the next day after smoking. Oh, and my couch now has an indent that can only be a result of smoking that fine indica after work. Make sure you keep an eye on your pantry and your couch, other than that you'll be just fine!  :)  :D  :smoke:  :bongin:  :smoking:

  20. paranoia is one, but that depends on the person. I myself have never become paranoid from smoking. Second is carcinogens produced by smoking combusted plant material, however the carcinogens are a lot less worse than tobaccos and it can be overcome easily with a vaporizer. Also the bronchitis thing too as stated above. Otherwise, nope.
