I am going to be getting seeds online this year. Just looking for some suggestions on what strains are good for gowing in my climate. Hoping for a Sativa and an IndicaI stain separately. I am in New York/Northeastern US, so the growing season is from May/June - September/October the end of the season is a little cooler. It is always very humid as well here in the valley. I've already heard good things about the Chitownseeds.com so I will probably be ordering a couple different stains from them this year. Any help is much appreciated and all criticism is welcome here ty. Take Care All.
North atlantic seed company, out of maine. Only broker I use now. Anything with a long flower time doesn't do great in our climate...too humid and often gets way too cold too quickly. If I were to grow outdoors, I'd pick a quick flowering Indica dominant strain to make sure they finish before it freezes. Making sure they have a good location with lots of airflow will go a long way in preventing bud rot. Indica's are better with colder temps also.
I will also just be using clones off the mothers to put outside. Here are some seeds I have been eyeing. Thank You. Would definitely like to get a Sativa strain as well. I have the best of growing spaces outside.
NY? Pretty damn difficult. Especially if you plan to keep mothers indoors. A pure Sativa can get up to 20 feet tall.
Well, the likely hood of having to harvest immature plants is definitely going to be a good possibility if you go the sativa route. Goooood luck.
I have grown here successfully for many years. Just haven't had the greatest tasting strains or mold resistant ones. So looking for advice. Also the plant will only get as big as the roots let it. That said, a smaller planter will yeild a small plant. Thank You for the response.
I have 6 to 7 months of growing time. I also posted some links in a reply with some sativa stains that look promising maybe for this climate. Thank you much for the reply.
I know what your climate is, mine is the same. The total grow time is not what's important....it's how much flower time before freezy freeze time. By the way, in our area, june and july are the only 2 months with enough light to hold a plant in veg.......
What county? IF You could go earlier & try for 2 grows of auto's? Get in the ground end of March??? & take advantage of the spring rain, weather permitting?
For an Early, Indica Dominant, and mold resistant, good producing strain, look into Vashon Early Bird. Its done late August-Mid September. Its a Hybrid of the Original 80s Super Sativa Seed Club- Early Bird, crossed with a Vashon Island Kush. The original was bred in Holland for early maturation, mold resistance, and the 2 have been bred together for decades to create a mold resistant, fast growing, early maturing, productive plant. Vashon, is an island in Peugeot Sound/Washington State, has many rainy, and foggy days, and their Vashon Kush has also been acclimated over decades, and adds to the acclimatization to make this version, of Early Bird. HARVEST WINDOW: 42 – 49 DAYS Most if not all the Vashon gear will have mold resistance. Cheap at $50 a pack. Available at JamesBeanCompany Dont know many Sativas that finish in Sept. Landrace Lebanese, but you would need to go through bunch of them, as they vary in THC/CBD composition. Kwik Seeds has Landrace Lebanese. Done August-September. If you could stretch things into Mid October, Relic Seeds has Cough B, and Super Silver Haze F3. This is probably the best SSH release in years. Its a cross of the 98 cup winning clone, and a first release Mr Nice Male, but arent done until Mid October. Huge Yield, and extremely potent. Chitown has these on sale, but still arent cheap. I bought 4 cacks of each several months ago. Cough is a clone only NL5 x Haze. Cough seeds are Cough x Tk/NL5/Haze F3.
What kind of grow? Stealth, backyard, in ground, in pots. NY is a big state, narrow it down & one of your "neighbors" may chime in.
I live in Michigan so our weather is somewhat the same. I stick to Indica dominant strains because of their shorter flowering time 8-12 weeks, realistically it's more like 10-14 A Sativa dominant strain flowering time is 10-12 weeks, realistically it's 12-16, the more Sativa the longer the flowering time. I've found that there just isn't enough time for a Sativa to finish before the cold weather sets in. I harvest mine middle to the end of October. I've never harvested in Sept. I've been growing outdoors since 2008 when it became legal in MI. What’s the Average Grow Period for Cannabis? | Arch Advanced Pain Management (stlouispainmanagement.com) Last year I grew Devils Play, Wookie Hashplant, and Snow Monkey, all regular Bodhi seeds. All great smoke, all good producers. Devils Play is the star of the three. HTH
Get some good soil going ** "raised bed living soil" ** & you can grow almost anything. I think you have plenty of time for anything May to sept & maybe more on both ends. Outdoor & legal, Put me in coach! Go big or go home
I'm in upstate NY also. I put em in cloth pots,on a sip tray, 1rst week in June. I bring them inside to finish end of Sept when it looks like London here. I'll never try to finish outside here again, super humid. I've been getting seeds from crop king in Canada. Their good but Imo, Maryjanes garden was better. Welcome to GC
There will most likely be snow still on the ground at the end of march. Doesn't matter what county. Beginning of may is typical planting time.
