crazy...what are the chances... everytime theres a storm i stay at my balcony and try to get a picture (but im usually too slow)and you were practically offered the pic...
Seriously though, that's an incredible video your friend really is lucks to not be -yeah. An man that lightning bolt looks so natural yet innovative and surreal. I mean nobody can invent that. Good share, man.
the first thing i did when i saw a flash outside, was grab the camera and go sit outside on my doorstep!
this made me roll about laughin! haha i think god can find better reasons 2 fire bolts of lightning at me than bein mancunian! although that could also be reason enough! lol
Its a lot more possible than a bolt of lightning not creating a shock wave of sound. Ionizing the molecules in the air creates a LOT of energy, which in turn creates a massive shock wave you can feel and hear. This shock wave travels @ the speed of sound, which is pretty damn fast. Unless your friend was able to somehow slow the speed of sound, the lightning wasn't as close as you think it was. Hell, people here have told you what a true near-miss of lightning is like, it's not silent by any means... Example: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hORUSzOvUfM"]YouTube - INCREDIBLE lightning strike video!!![/ame]
I do see your point. i cant watch the video as im on my cel.l fone. Is there no way lightening cant create a sound. I know this sounds ridiculous BUT if it is an optical illusion(even tho the picture shows the bolt dirrectly infront) then it wasnt that far away anyway. Meaning the sound would have come just as fast.... Does that make sense lol. Need fisher to come in and shed some light as to weather there was a sound after.... Il try contact him.
The only way you'd see lightning and not hear thunder is if it was far enough away and the environment was loud enough to dissipate the sound. Mainly in places like cities, the thunder will be drowned out by the city noise, and blocked by buildings. I'm not saying it was miles away, but it was far enough to have not heard the thunder in the couple seconds afterwards. When I say optical illusion, I mean the camera had something to do with it. The video I posted is a real lightning strike, pretty close to the camera. Just like you'd hear a gunshot from that close while simultaneously seeing the shot, the thunder and lightning are pretty much happening at the same time. If it takes time between seeing the lightning and hearing it, it's because it's far enough away for the light to hit your eyes first, then the slower sound wave catches up and you hear it. There's the old trick of counting after seeing a lightning strike, then when you hear the thunder you stop counting, and every 5 seconds is a mile away. So if it took 5 seconds after the strike to hear the thunder, it was about a mile away.
Lightning struck about 30 feet from me and blew my hearing out! Crazy to see what a lightning bolt does to sand.
yeah, lightning struck the bed of my truck while I was driving, left a MASSIVE dent in the bed, and blew out all the tires. Lightning also struck the very center of my front yard when I was like 6 I think, me and my sisters were out watching a lightning storm (under a walkway covering roof) outside my house, and BAM it struck like 6 feet from us. I love lightning but it likes to strike close to me so I stay inside when storms are about now
It's definitely weird. I think it's actually a ground to cloud bolt. Look frame by frame, it looks like it comes from the ground...
it does come from the ground and connects half way and i hav no idea how there is no sound there was thunder after it from where the bolt came from the clouds but other than that i dont kno! i hav to say i thought it was a trick of the camera at 1st but when i slowed it down into single frames i can see it cum up from the ground and connect halfway up in the sky. i asumed it was an illusion at 1st because ther was no sound but then after inspection of the video i cant come 2 another conclusion other than it striking the ground
Alot of people think that it's the rubber that protects them but its actually the metal skin of the car that protects them, A lighting bolt has to many volts it will simply pass through the rubber and into the ground. Damnnn it seems discovery channel has some use at 4am.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve6XGKZxYxA]YouTube - Top Gear - Richard Hammond struck by lightning in car - BBC[/ame] Discovery Channel, Top Gear, we all got to the same place
Yeah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is skeptical. I don't believe that video is real, although it is a good reproduction of lightning. I don't care how "far away" the lightning came from, making contact anywhere near a person (as it shows in the video) will produce an extremely loud bang. Immediately. Not after he stopped filming. Immediately. If he was indeed as close as the video and some users have attested. If it is indeed a real lightning bolt then your friend isn't lucky to be alive since the time for the light and sound to hit the camera differentiated, meaning it was [x] amount of distance away from him. Not trying to be a dick, but hey isn't science fun?
That's fuckin cool mate, well captured! Wouldnt've wanted a fellow manc to be taken down by a storm like that
Yeah me and my friend made a fake lightening video so we could look cooler on the internet You caught us. Everyone is entitled to an oppion and yes it is strange that no sound is produced but dont call me a liar.
