What am I seeing here?

  1. Hello All!

The plant you are about to see was donated to me about two weeks ago, it had been
flowering for quite some time. I am trying to get it back to vegging so I can get some
    clones going.

The plant basically has been dormant, with some leaves yellowing and falling off.
I think this is standard nitrogen deficiency because the plant was in a late stage of
flowering. I have not given the plant any nutes, I wanted to just let it get used to
the new lighting and settle down after the transplant shock. I am planning on giving
it a quarter dose of some 18-18-21 tonight.

Yesterday I noticed that along the tops of all the bud sites, fresh bright green
growth has emerged. It is noticeable against the much darker green of the older
parts of the plant. There are new white hairs growing out of these fresh growths.

What am I seeing here? Is the plant successfully returning to a vegetative state?
I presumed that I would first notice new nodes growing or fan leaves, but this looks
more like bud growth. Is this a first stage?

These images show the new growth. The new growth is the very light green:

You can also see the leaves.. what do you all think about them? I can say that
they were almost crispy a few days ago, now they are getting soft and flexible
    again.

Here is a larger shot of the entire plant as it stands today:

    Any info is appreciated!

  2. No responses? That surprises me.. maybe I'm not being clear or something! :)

Anyways.. I looked at them again today and sure enough, its popping out some
new fan leaves at the top of the buds.. I'm presuming this is a good sign that the
plant is going to start vegging again.

Heres another question: I am concerned about the plant height when it starts to
veg again.. can I cut this plant down to the lower bud sites and let it grow up again
or do I need to leave it be? I would perform LST as a method of height management
but unfortunately the stalk is too strong and if I bend it, it will break, no question. I
might be able to LST the tops only.. not sure yet.

When/where will I start to see new nodes growing? I want to get some clone action
happening here soon! :) -- The plant looks and smells great.. I dried and water cured
a little of the immature (tricomes are all white) bud and it was great.

I did attempt to root a cutting when I first got the plant, but it succumed to mold and
didnt go. I dont want to take another cutting until the plant is filling out again.

I'm learning this all the hard way.. which I don't mind.. but its nice to get some advice
from time to time eh :)

    Thanks everyone!!

  3. good job on the re-veg. As the plant puts on more leafy growth the buds will begin to die off...be sure to pick the dead stuff off to keep from having a breeding ground for fungus. definitely looks like new growth to me.:hello:

  4. Thanks for your response!

    Here are the latest photos:

It seems like every bud site has that one big green leaf starting.. I'm hoping to
    see it develop further!

Question: Can I cut this plant down to the 3rd budsite without killing it? Its a little
too tall for me and with the re-vegging, its only going to get taller! All clones and
new seedlings will enjoy LST :)

  5. I really don't know what would happen if you cut the top off. I've done it with a plant that went hermi on me. I wanted to harvest and also try to make seed so I cut 2/3 of the plant without any ill effects. the remaining 1/3 did have more growth on it than what would be left of yours.

It's your call I'm not going to recommend a risky move like that...but it might be okay.

  6. My gut is telling me to cut the plant down to just above that 3rd bud site in another
week or so, after more leaf development has occurred. I was in a position earlier
that forced me to do whatever it takes to get that plant to veg, but now I have a few
seedlings going so the pressure is off. Although ultimately, clones from this plant
would be great, or, worst case, I'll pollinate it for some seeds.

I'm going to watch some videos on plant pruning.. maybe I'll get some insight into
    this issue.

    I love it!

    Thanks for the help
